I want to say up front that the one-star rating is a bit deceptive. The hotel is beautiful, for the most part the staff were courteous and friendly, and I enjoyed my stay. HOWEVER: That was all marred by an incident yesterday the likes of which I have never seen. I was staying at the motif for business and was in the hotel restaurant, Frolik, from about 10-11 eating breakfast and doing work at my laptop at the table. Partway through, I get a call from a colleague saying that she can't get into the hotel because it's been locked down for a fire alarm - which was news to me. Elevators and stairwells were all locked, so I was stuck on the 5th floor. Shortly thereafter, a crazy-looking guy starts marching aggressively around the restaurant with a fire extinguisher and yelling that he needs to get out of the building. A few members of staff are following him around and trying to get him to stop, and some of the staff end up getting sprayed with the extinguisher. Meanwhile, I am trapped on this floor - the only customer - and the staff clearly aren't sure how to handle this until the police arrive (not that I can blame them). The guy is trying to climb out of windows, etc. when firemen and police arrive and take this guy away. I was then escorted by a fireman to my room on the third floor where I was stuck for another 20 minutes or so while more fire trucks arrived and the whole "false fire alarm" incident was cleared up. To be clear: I think the staff did their best, and obviously the hotel can't control a crazy man who decides for whatever reason to go rogue with a fire extinguisher. To that point, everything had been great (and my server at breakfast was awesome throughout). BUT I have to say I was quite upset when my colleague told me that an announcement had been made in the hotel and the guests had been evacuated after the initial alarm. NONE of this was communicated to me, working away in the restaurant, and as a result I literally could not escape this crazy guy - via stairs or elevator. And I STILL paid $25 for breakfast - which, at the very least, I think could have been comped. Quality of hotel and staff was overall great, but as far as feeling personally safe or looked after in that very odd situation: a big fat zero. Thankfully there was no fire, but even as things were, that was a ridiculous situation for me to have been in with no warning whatsoever.

Very good hotel three blocks from the Washington State convention center. I had very good nights and really nothing to complain about. Buffet breakfast was solid if not memorable. I would go back to the Motif the next time I attend a conference in Seattle.

Nice hotel. Clean. Centrally located. Liked the hot apple cider that was free every day in the lobby. Only complaint was the noisy water pipes. Seriously loud whenever hot water was use on 11th floor. Could hear water pipes when others were using shower as well.

This was a fun hotel in the heart of downtown and right next to the shopping. I really liked the decor of the room. Our room had a great view of the sound and Pike's Place market. The bed is comfortable and the entire room and bathroom looked newly remodeled and designed. The lobby also held a complimentary wine tasting, which I enjoyed. We did grab a quick bite to eat at Frolick for lunch and I do not recommend eating there as the food is only so-so and overpriced. The outdoor patio is nice though. My only complaint was the room temperature. There was no way to get the room cooler but otherwise I would recommend staying at this hotel.

This hotel's customer service was well below a NEGATIVE ZERO!!! My husband and I stayed here with our children for the night on Sunday, March 23rd 2015, and the agent who checked us; I should say "pre-registered" us for check-in, could not tell us how long it would take for our room to be cleaned. We waited well past an hour AFTER the 4pm check-in before they could tell us anything. There were at least 3 other families/couples waiting for their rooms to be finished cleaning as well. The other couples/families were waiting much longer than my husband and I. The agent who checked us in was NOT knowledgeable at all. She had attitude when I called her out on things she told my husband and I; I only called her out because the agent next to us who was checking another person in, was telling that guest different things than what the agent I was dealing with said. When my husband stopped an employee, who I am assuming was one of the agents, that agent then said he would look into the wait time; but decided to go to the agent lady I dealt with and whispered in her ear, they both giggled, then he left and NEVER returned. When my husband and I saw the other couples/families complaining to a manager, I walked over in that direction. I spoke with the manager named Eric, who actually seemed to understand how frustrated we were for having to wait so long. I asked for our money back because the wait was ridiculous. The then said he was going to go up to our room, Executive Suite, and see what the hold up was. When he returned, he said our room was ready... BUT... he put us in a family room vs the Executive Suite we originally purchased. He said that since he had to "down grade" us, because our room STILL was NOT ready, the room and all charges we would have, would all be paid for by the hotel. That was the only good thing about this horrible experience. The only reason why we wanted to stay at this hotel was because we've stayed there before when it was the Red Lion. And, we thought we would give it another try because it looked very nice. We MIGHT stay again, but, maybe as a last resort. But then again, the concierge Schuyler said that if we were to stay again, to let him know and we would have upgrades of sorts due to the horrible experience.

Great hotel! Conveniently located in downtown. It's a block away from the light rail and a couple blocks away from the space needle metro. Stayed here for 3 nights and took the light rail from the airport. Getting here was a breeze. Was greeted by the friendly front desk and they got us checked-in in no time. The room is clean and loved the decor, though it's a bit small.

So to start with the hotel put me in the wrong room, a single bed instead of a double as needed with 4 people in it. The sink handle came off in your hand and sprayed water at high speed when you turned the tap on. Then they lost items when we were transferred to the correct room. Finally when we checked out they gave us some other guys bag. When I called back they said the poor guy had to leave without it and they had to pay for a taxi ride home. Hope he lives with roommates cause his keys are on the bag. I won't be returning and I'm rather upset.

Decent rooms, terrible service The first room I stayed in was newly refurnished and beautiful. I was in my room at 10 pm and I wanted to take a shower for an early meeting. In the shower and sink all I could get was hot water. In the sink I tried just the cold water tap and out came hot water. And I'm not talking about the water being warm, but like lava. It was scalding hot. I called the desk and told him I could only get scalding hot water and I couldn't take a shower and he says "Aw, that sucks." When I asked him if it could be fixed I was told that the maintenance crew were gone for the day and it would have to wait till morning. Nothing I said could convince him that he should actually do anything about it and all other rooms were taken. Also, until about 3am, the bar on the first floor (I was on the third) was blasting music. Actually, I'm not sure if it was the bar or the freakin party bus that pulled up to the sidewalk with it's doors open. The next day, they moved me to a higher floor. Never offered any kind of upgrade or apology beyond "I'm sorry to hear that." The second room was older and not as nice. 10am I left the room and put the "Please clean room" tag on the door. When I returned at 3pm the room was still messy. I called maid service and asked them if they could clean the room. I told the woman that I had put the tag on the door around 10am. After 30 minutes the manager of the maid service department called me and started asking me all sorts of questions and the tag on the door and if I had left anything in the room. It was weird. So I said, "can I just get the room cleaned please?" And she just kept interrogating me and said she had to ask to find out why my room wasn't cleaned earlier. I finally lost it and yelled "Can I just get my f*cking room cleaned?" Among the worst hotel experiences I've had, and for the price, it should not be like this. I'm giving 2 stars because the rooms were actually nice and maybe I just had a bad luck weekend.
