No simpler and fresher version of an old favorite than this Four Bean Salad. Spend a few minutes chopping and your guests will ooh and aaah like you won't believe.

Move over three bean salad. There's a new kid on the block - Four Bean Salad. Tasty, colorful and easy, this summer delight is a perfect side dish at any pot luck, barbecue or simple grilled dinner. Plus, on the off-chance that there is any Four Bean Salad left over, it is a superb as a component in Salade Nicoise.  This salad was inspired by two of my favorite friends, MM & MK. We make a merry threesome and when we get together - wi...

One of the easiest summer desserts you can make - perfect warm or cold, great with ice cream and also delicious on its own. Stone fruit and blueberry crisp is versatile. Use lots of different fruits, or even just one if you're so inclined.

#summerrecipes   #fruit   #fruitcrisp   #dessert
Fruit crisp is the perfect summer dessert. It's versatile, simple, and takes only a few minutes to prepare. I'm not putting crisp down as a fall dessert with apples and pears, or a spring sweet with the addition of rhubarb, but there is something even more wonderful (if that's possible) when the ripe summer fruit peeks out from below the baked topping. Whether you bought too many peaches because they were irresistible or have a hug...

Popsicles for breakfast everyone! I'm declaring it and that makes it official. 3 ingredients, less than 5 minutes and you don't have to eat cereal or a smoothie again this week.

#easyrecipes   #summerfun   #yogurt   #fruit   #pops
If I see one more recipe for a green breakfast smoothie, I am going to scream. I'm all for a nutritious breakfast, but I would much rather eat fruit and yogurt in the morning. No kale or spinach before noon unless it's in an omelet or frittata, and even then I'm dubious. But I have nothing against popsicles at 8 am. Especially if they are healthy and taste this good.  With only three ingredients (and you can cut those down to two if ...

Which 5 foods shouldn't you wash (or even rinse) before cooking? How many do you get right?

Many stores and other public places have hand sanitizer freely available for members of the public who enter their buildings. That’s a good thing; it’s smart to avoid spreading germs and illness. Practicing good hygiene in the kitchen is also smart - keeping hands, kitchen equipment, and preparation areas clean when preparing foods. But did you know that it’s better not to wash or rinse certain foods? This subject can raise hackles ...

Stir-fried asparagus with ginger and sesame. Fresh asparagus with an Asian twist

It’s been a long winter. Snow and cold temperatures left me feeling like all I wanted to do was bake and roast, keeping the oven going for hours at a time. But last week I saw the first sign of spring – asparagus in grocery stores! OK, maybe a few crocuses popped up too, but it was the asparagus that caught my eye, and my fancy. I stir-fry year round, but particularly love to use the technique with fresh vegetables that come into sea...

Perfect summer dinner - stovetop ready and simple ingredients. Easy Stuffed Poblano Peppers.

#dinnertime   #pepper   #stuffedfood   #recipeideas   #food   #maincourse
“Stuff it” is my slightly naughty thought every time I see a poblano pepper. They are perfect vessels into which you can spoon meat, vegetables, rice (or a combination) for a tasty, yet simple dinner.  In hot weather, you don’t even have to bake the stuffed poblanos if you simply roast the peppers first using the same method as for red bell peppers, cook the filling on the stove and then put them together. Of course, if you are a fir...

Come and get it! An easy and delicious dessert that you can make in the morning, serve cool at night, and enjoy as leftovers cold the next day. Not a bad way to use a bag of cherries.

#dessertrecipes   #frenchfood   #summer   #cherry   #cherries   #baking
Clafoutis is a rustic French dessert, basically a flan with embedded fruit. Traditionally served warm, it usually has an almost pudding-like consistency. But I wanted one that was served cold, full of cherries and with a consistency more like chess pie than pudding. My inspiration came from a Cherry Clafoutis featured in SeriousEats, but took so many liberties with the structure and ingredients of that recipe that I’m OK if the Serio...

"What? There's no pasta in this?!" he exclaimed, helping himself to more. My pasta lover has been won over and you'll be too.   #meatlessmonday   #secretrecipeclub   #vegetarian   #easyrecipes   #pesto   #tomatoes   #corn   #zucchini
It’s Secret Recipe Club time again, and this month I’ve been paired with Susan of The Wimpy Vegetarian. At first, I thought it might take me a while to decide on which of her recipes to cook but as it turns out, the choice took all of 30 seconds. Her Spiralized Zucchini: Zucchetti with Garlic, Tomatoes and Corn immediately won my heart. Better yet, it became an immediate hit as soon as I served it. Both my husband and I scarfed down ...

Sephardic Charoset Balls - a Passover tradition reimagined. Sweet with a spicy twist.

#charoset #jewishfood #easyrecipe #driedfruit #nuts #Passover
It’s not Passover without charoset. And in my house, that means several types, ranging from sweet to mostly spicy to the sweet and slightly spicy. Last Passover, I made one Sephardic-style charoset on-the-fly, adding dried fruit, nuts and a bit of spice until the balance seemed just right. My friends Mark and Carole told me that it was a definite keeper. Knowing myself well – and my propensity for losing track of recipes (and lots of...
