Hiding in the dark

Lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria)

Svartskog, Norway

Although it is snowing yet again and the nights are long and the forest silent and bland, the daylight is growing in length faster every day now. In fact it increased by 5 minutes and 12 seconds yesterday, and will increase more each day this month and next.

Just a bit over a month till spring equinox…

And then the first plants will respond to the heat and light of the sun and again the yellow sunshine of the lesser celandine will color the ground now white, hard and seemingly barren.

How I long for the spring to arrive!
