This season Cam Newton emerged as Black America’s quarterback, his success and unapologetic embrace of African-American culture winning support from black fans in Charlotte and beyond.

Happy Thursday. Fight Network ‪#‎BoxingWeekly‬ is on line and on the air. This week we talk Garcia-Guerrero, chat with IBF heavyweight champ Charles Martin, and view contemporary boxing through the prism of sleazy 90s RnB. This one is fun.

couple of important questions. 1) Why is pious christian Manny Pacquiao doing business with a convicted rapist and child abuser? 2) Is there racism in boxing? We discuss all that and more.

Forbes says the Raptors are worth $980 billion. That's a lot of money but the experts I consulted say that number can climb even higher. Find out how in my latest at the Star.

Rebound of Canadian dollar, continued success on court will send team value past $1 billion, experts say.

“The French pride themselves on their scrummaging . . . and he prides himself on being the cornerstone of the pack,” Butcher said. “For a guy who isn’t in full-time rugby to step in to the World Cup and dominate international props is a testament to his talent.”

Thursday means two new additions to the Fight Network Boxing Weekly YouTube playlist. This week's selections explained:

1. Because There is No Racism in Boxing, we're adding Gerry Cooney vs George Foreman from January of 1990. The sports public's enduring fascination with and confidence in Cooney had nothing to do with the fact that he was a white American heavyweight in an era of African-American dominance. Impossible. Race Plays no Role in Boxing. Doesn't play a role in the beating Foreman lays on him here.

2. Because most of you only know Rocky Lockridge as The Guy Who Cried on Intervention, we're adding his 1988 classic with Tony Lopez. The man really did have a life before crack. And he was a hell of a fighter.

Enjoy

Great gym for a few reasons. 1) You won't find better instruction than you'll get from Claude Patrick and DJ Dallaire. Both have competed at a high level -- Claude has fought and won several times in the UFC -- but knowing is one thing and teaching is something else. Claude and DJ are great teachers. They both know a ton but they're both constantly learning themselves, and it makes them better instructors. Work with them and you will improve. 2) Positive atmosphere. We have some outstanding martial artists in the gym, but we don't have a lot of egos or testosterone-addled tough guys spoiling for a fistfight every time they show up. If you're the type who treats every workout as an audition for the UFC, there's probably a gym for you... but Elite isn't it. Instructors here put learning first, which facilitates learning (surprise!!) and limits tough-guy posturing and intimidation -- and the injuries they cause. Bottom line... If you're looking for a gym that's going to sell you a dream (getting in shape is easy... you'll make a million bucks in the UFC) this might not be the place for you. But if you want to learn from the best, train with great people and improve your fitness and martial arts skills, then Elite is the spot. Period.
