Has anyone used Google voice to go data-only? On T-mobile? Starting to look tempting.

If you have an Android phone (and I'm pretty sure iOS too), the integration is completely transparent. It's always been that way on Android -- the Google Voice app "magically" handled the voice-specific-number-per-person handling so from userland you could never tell that it was happening. You enter numbers into contacts as normal, dialing a number (either someone in your contacts or not) works as normal, inbound calls work as normal, etc. All that is still true. The weird, painful multi-number handling you have to do yourself is only in contexts where an app doesn't exist to handle that for you.  I'm not sure what the landscape is today, but I'm fairly certain that iOS is covered in addition to Android. Making calls from the web, of course, is just done via the Hangouts/Google Voice interface, so again, nothing special needed there.

The mint julep is a great summer sipper, not just for Derby Day. I prefer an old-fashioned glass to the traditional silver julep cup because glass insulates rather than conducts heat keeping my cocktail cool. Crushed ice makes a difference here.

Already feeling good about this decision. Don't know about outside the city yet but T-Mobile's coverage in my neighborhood seems great and Verizon has always been mediocre at best.

Get the FCC speed test app! The more good data they have, the easier it is for them to call carriers on their BS claims and force a change.

Anybody else using Inbox yet? After a few days I think it's... okay. I feel like I'm not really the target user for it. If you're a Google "power" user or whatever it seems a little bit limited.

I'm not convinced Inbox is a full replacement for Gmail, but as a triage tool to use along side it, it's amazing.  I can process my mail really fast this way and do the heavy lifting in my regular Gmail interface.

Check this out, Chicago peeps. (And MPLS, but you might already know about it.)

Almost sounds too good to be true but I only tried this because I saw it on reddit. Cracked glass awhile back, put in a request for a repair quote with Motorola and this email seems to suggest they'll replace it for free. Hooray for Moto customer service if so.

Anyone tried this out? Now that I've got the Moto X I was thinking about using my Galaxy Nexus as a music player anyway and this seems to fit the bill nicely.

Think I was talking about this with +Tom Wolf. Looks like they didn't totally remove edge swiping to switch tabs but made it only apply to the menu bar.

Wasn't expecting it until tomorrow but it seems my Moto X will be delivered by 3:00 today. Still haven't decided whether to move my main number to Google Voice or not. Thoughts?

Alright, Motorola's running a promotion (supposed to be Cyber Monday but their web site(s) shit the bed) 12/4 and 12/9 for a $350 Moto X off contract. Gotta decide between that and the Nexus 5. The Wirecutter is recommending Moto X for most people. Any thoughts, Android friends? How are you liking your N5, +Andrew Branch?
We think the Moto X is the best all-around Android phone for most people. It’s not too big or too small and its software is close to Google’s reference operating system. Plus the additions Motorola did throw in are actually useful.

So glad to finally have a great bakery in the neighborhood. The cream scones are probably the best anywhere in Minneapolis. The breakfast cupcake with blueberries and bacon is unbelievable. The whole wheat boule was not quite as crusty as I prefer but was still excellent and is at least the best bread within a couple miles any direction. They even make a solid latte and the atmosphere is casual but incredibly charming. I haven't even tried anything from the kitchen but other people's breakfasts looked great and I have no doubt I will return soon and often.

What's not to like about Rustica? One of the absolute best bakeries in the Twin Cities. I love the croissants, the chocolate croissants, the kouign amann, the olive bread, all of the other breads, the cinnamon buns... I don't think I've had anything that isn't amazing. And they're no secret (they put them right up front) but the bittersweet chocolate are unbelievable if that's your thing (bittersweet chocolate desserts are my thing). The coffee is top notch, too, with all the fancy third wave brewing methods you could ask for.

The lox bagel with with everything is fantastic. They do a lot of good food and it's all local and sustainable but that's what I come for on a lazy weekend morning. They've also got a great patio and a surprisingly solid local beer selection. Great place to come for happy hour when it's nice out.

NLF is not your average gym. It's not that big and it only has a few cardio machines. It's got a 10 yard wide strip of turf running down the middle of the gym where people push weighted sleds back and forth or run sprints and agility drills. It's got bumper plates and plenty of squat racks for people who like to do squats, deadlifts, and olympic lifts. It's got agility ladders, weight vests, plyo boxes, and all sorts of other stuff you won't find at an average YMCA or Snap Fitness or whatever. If you're looking for a place to do a regular workout with weights and cardio you can definitely do that here but you can also do more fun and functional workouts that you can't do at most other gyms. I work in Eagan and live in Uptown but make the trek to North Loop because it's the closest place I can do the kind of serious athletic training I'm interested in.

Great little tailor in an out of the way location. I can't find much that fits off the rack so I get shirts tailored pretty regularly and this is the only place I trust to get it right consistently. Be clear about how you want things to fit because Stephen tends to be quiet and will just give you the default unless you say otherwise (which is fine, but if you want a trendier or modern fit might not be just right).

The ham and gruyere croissants are incredible while they're available. It's hard to pick favorites from the bread but the miche, olive loaf, and levain pretty much all blow my mind. This is a top notch French style bakery. I wish the coffee were a little to match the baked goods (it's not bad, just basic) but I can't even take stars off because the breads are that good. I'm glad I don't live any closer than two miles or I'd be a fat man.

Muddy Waters is a weird combination of coffee shop bar/restaurant that actually manages to do both pretty well. During the day it's quiet enough for studying if you don't mind music, has pretty decent coffee, and has outlets everywhere including under the bars for easily plugging in laptops. Food is solid all day. I'm partial to the beef tongue sandwich when they've got one on the menu, but the burger, fish tacos, dry rub wings, fries, and pot roast sliders are all awesome. The beer list is better than average with a solid lineup of local and national microbrews.
