PLAY with us and make a difference in the lives of very deserving children!

The 3rd Annual From the Heart Golf Tournament has a unique goal: Raise enough funds in one day to purchase a Concerto Shower Trolley for the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston.

Last year, an outpouring of support for the second From the Heart Golf Tournament allowed us to raise money to put towards the purchase of a PneuWalker Mobility Trainer, to help advance the children’s healing!

This year, our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a Concerto Shower Trolley, this shower trolley is specifically designed as a safe platform to provide extra care for frail or disabled dependent patients or residents with no ability to support themselves.

There are several ways to get involved and make a difference - we have very affordable sponsorship opportunities, and are looking for participants, raffle items, and in-kind donations too!

12 p.m. Shotgun Start • 4 Person Scramble

Registration and range open at 11 a.m.

Registration and payment deadline is February 20, 2015

I have really come to appreciate this golf course. We are from Fort Worth use to stay on the Crystal Beach side, but what they call a golf course over there is a joke. Moody is a really nice public course. The staff is always very nice and helpful.

This review is based on several rounds. A very nice facility but, with non-golf personnel running the place. On more than on occasion I've played the course and there seems to be no control on the course. Groups of six that refuse to allow faster groups to play through. Multiple groups on tee box. Non-playing kids allowed to run wild. Because it is a resort course you will find "inexperienced" golfers that have no clue. There are "player assistants" that wave as they drive by 3 groups on par 3. The course itself is in fine condition. Greens are large and seem like they should be faster. A fair golf experience overall. It could be so much better if they had some control.

Being from Galveston, I grew up playing what used to be "Muni," and it was always tough given the coastal wind and water on all but one hole. In the three-four years since the renovation, the Moody course has become one of my favorites in the entire Houston area. First off, the greens are fantastic. They are consistently smooth and quick throughout the entire course, which is rare for rain-deprived Texas. They are quick but not unfairly fast, and are very soft for how quick they are. I love hitting into and putting on these greens. I've played there ten times since '09, the latest over the '11 holidays, and feel like the course is really hitting its stride. The layout continues to impress, even though the first six holes I knew as a child are completely gone. This course is certainly not for the faint of heart, as there is water on both sides of many holes and on at least one side for about 16 holes. However, if you're feeling good about your game and want a good test and a good time, this track is definitely for you. As for service, I can't speak to the unfortunate instances that happened to some of the earlier reviewers. One quirk that is somewhat annoying is they insist on asking for the carts to be turned in at a certain time, usually at least a half hour before sunset. For those trying to squeeze in a twilight round with a big group, this could be an issue but its also something to plan around. This course blows any of the other gulf-coast municipal and even some private courses out of the water. I have to go clear to the other side of Houston to find another daily-rate course that I look forward to playing as much as Moody.

I finally got to play this course in early September 2009. Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy redid it a couple years ago, then Hurricane Ike covered it in several feet of saltwater and debris in September 2008. Fortunately, the paspalum (salt-tolerant) grasses used in the renovation came through just fine. In fact, i think this turf is the best I have played in the greater Houston area all summer. A very enjoyable course, and nice value at the weekend twilight rate. Many interesting holes and well-maintained.

A true test of your game. Almost always windy, a lot of water and well-placed bunkers. Course conditions lately have been really nice. Full, fluffy bunkers and big, receptive greens that are rolling just the right speed. Find some cheap green fees online and it's well worth the drive.

I played 18-holes there Dec 11th, 2012 while on vacation. I wasn't too thrilled that I had to pay $10.00 more than a local person, since I was from out of town. I read the reviews first, and they are accurate. The course does have a lot of water on it, so you need to be accurate off the tee box. Fortunately for me, since I flew on United Airlines and they restrict you to checked bags being less then 62 linear inches, I only brought a small carry bag and nothing bigger than a 4-hybrid, which I hit pretty straight. The front-9 had some bare spots and there were a few times that I felt I was playing out of pasture that was coverted into a cheap golf course. The back 9 was in a little better condition. I don't know why. It seemed liked they watered it better. All the greens were dry, and didn't hold approach shots too well. In other words, I would rank this as a course worth NO MORE than $24.00 to ride 18-holes. I've played better, for less and the "GOOD" review is being generous. Mostly because, I did enjoy the challenges of all the water, and having to play the course smart and pick some layup spots accordingly.

This course was both scenic and challenging. The fairways and greens were in good shape and there were no brown spots despite the fact the Island had not had much rain over the past several weeks. Making a tee time was easy, checking in was easy, getting balls to hit off the range was easy, and ordering food/drink while making the turn was easy. The course was very pleasant and there was a nice breeze to offset the heat and humidity. There is enough wind that it certainly affects your play on several holes. Lots of water and narrow fairways on the back nine so make sure you have enough balls in your bag. They even have a nice bar in the clubhouse that is a great place to grab a burger and drink prior to heading back to the real world. I don't get out to play golf as much as I like, but this was a great round and nothing but a pleasant all around experience. Make sure you bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent. The mosquitos are aggressive if you aren't protected.

This review is based on staff an not the course itself. I had a gift for golf that expires so I needed book it soon. When the rains came I though for sure I would not be playing golf today. I called at 9:50am and talked to the starter who said that yes, we will be letting people out after the rain stops, probably after noon. My tee time was for 12:20pm. So I made the drive. Moody Gardens GC is over an hour drive from my house. When I are arrived at 11:00am the course was closed. There was no one around. I called again and Rick answered. He's the pro. He said that yes he instructed his staff to say that and added "But it didn't stop raining, did it". I generally do write many reviews however I was really put off by this guy. When he said that it was only 11:10. Since the gift card (2 rounds, 2 buckets, and a cart rental) was a promotion (pre paid) I figured if I could not golf due to rain I would need to be there anyway to get a rain check. I asked Rick about that and after some brief silence he said "sorry I can't do that" an instructed me to take it up with groupon. Who knows maybe ricks an alright guy but, maybe rain makes him a little crabby. Either way it's a poor way to treat your customers.
