Huby was born March 10th, 1922 in Tukwila, Washington.  At the age of 17, Huby lost his right hand in a printing press accident. Though the loss of a hand might seem catastrophic to most, Huby has never let it get him down or limit him at all.  He was a fantastic golfer prior to the accident and after, he still maintained a decent golf score.  Golf is a sport Huby still enjoys watching to this day.
He graduated from both Seattle Pacific College and New York Biblical Seminary, and served as a Presbyterian minister from 1950 to 1969.  Just before Huby graduated from seminary, he married his lovely Marie (in 1949). Huby left the ministry in ’69 to pursue a career in the Life insurance industry with the Principal Financial Group until his retirement in 1993.  Together, He and Marie grew a family of three sons, Jon, Dave and Dan.  There are even 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren!
Huby was a member of the Kiwanis club for 40 years and is credited with being a co-founder of the Kiwanis-Dornbecher Children’s Cancer Program, which raises millions of dollars, funds, two doctoral fellowships at Dornbecher each year.  The program has also contributed to dramatic improvements in children’s cancer outcomes.  The annual award given to outstanding Kiwanians is now named after him in his honor!

For Throwback Thursday we’d like to introduce you to our resident Teeny S., seen here years ago with her family and adoring husband, Paul. Paul's love for Teeny has remained steadfast and true. He visits Teeny a few times per week, takes her out on dates and sits with her, holding hands, during the musical performances.  We love you Teeny! #TBT #FrontierCulture

"Love is a multi-dimensional emotion that cannot be adequately described in any grouping of words spoken or on paper. Love is shown in one's actions day to day." –Monterey Court resident Dean H. #WisdomWednesday #frontierculture

In 1954, our resident, Elizabeth D., did something that only a handful of people worldwide have done: she hiked the roughly 800 miles of The Pacific Crest Trail on her own.  Liz (her preferred name) has been active her entire life.  She was a skier in her youth. Such a good skier, in fact, that a local newspaper wrote an article about her skiing endeavors on Mt. Hood. Liz is a joy to spend time with and is still an avid walker with a song in her heart.

Resident Sharon K. is our community wine connoisseur. She chose to sample the white wine during our latest lunch outing and commented that it had a subtle and not overpowering sweetness, rating it a 7.5/10.
