Montecristo Tarpon Camp, home of giant river monster

Post has attachment
Sport fishing the San Juan River in Nicaragua.

The Rio San Juan in Nicaragua is home of a large school of giant tarpon that had decided to retire in Lake Nicaragua and the Rio San Juan,  they stay in our water year round, and don´t migrate back to the ocean.

Younger tarpon come in to the water system and migrate back to the Atlantic ocean after they mate and lay they eggs in protected waters.
Giant Tarpon, a real river monster, a priceless experience for  any angler of the world, is the number one sport fish because of the challenge involve in it capture with rod and real, and even more difficult with the fly.

Montecristo River Lodge the famous ¨Tarpon Camp¨ in Rio San Juan offer affordable fishing packages for all sport fishing professional or aficionados, and for their whole family, the lodge sit on the Montecristo private natural reserve, and offer horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, birding& wildlife, and tours to  El Castillo, a historic colonial river town, with an old Spanish fort.

Montecristo practice catch and release on tarpon. When they know the fish will die, they give the meat to the local maternity house and to feed the local police and wildlife ranger. Nobody like to see a death fish floating on the water, especially when it could feed hungry people.

Tarpon meat is a source of  protein and has been in their diet  through the recorded history of the river.

Come  to Rio San Juan for your next fishing or  family adventure vacation, you will find friendly people and an  affordable fishing experience. Come release your trophy, in Rio San Juan, Nicaragua.

For bird lovers, here is a small threat. This humming birds was dancing to attract her mate, every few minutes it flown around the tree, to come back to the same branch and keep on dancing. This is the kind of behavior you can observe in Montecristo, Rio San Juan.

Welcome to our wildlife refuge and  eco lodge Montecristo, the reserve is 120 acres with primary rain forest, about 1 km of river front by 3.5 km in land, we are locates between the river port town of Boca de Sabalos and El Castillo and only  5 km from the international border with Costa Rica.
Beside wildlife and forest, we have a small plantation of cacao and fruits; have horse stable, hiking trails, a small river marina with fishing boat, kayak and canoes. Is a great place to use as home base when exploring the Rio San Juan.
