There was a time when farmers' markets were virtually unheard of, but wartime necessity re-introduced them to the public. Today, over 8,700 farmers' markets nationwide not only sell fresh produce, but they help to foster a sense of community, provide food education, and champion environmental stewardship. https://loom.ly/VeuxxnM

Winter squashes are a great source of flavor and nutrition for Fall meals. Visit a local farm like Laurel Glen Farm in Shelton, Gazy Brothers Farm in Oxford, or Waterview Farm in Monroe for acorn, spaghetti, butternut, kabocha, or hubbard squash and then try one of the recipes in this amazing list compiled by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture: https://loom.ly/FRl92Wc

The farmers' market may be over for the year, but we're already hard at work planning for next season. We met up with other Market Managers in Connecticut for an educational seminar in Hartford on Wednesday, sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture. It was great to network, share ideas and hear different perspectives on farming and farmers markets in our state. Photo ©CT Department of Agriculture.

It's market day! Today is the final day of our 2017 season, but there's still plenty going on at the farmers' market from 3:00pm to 6:00pm today. We've got plenty of Fall produce including squashes, pumpkins, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, greens, apples, peppers, and more! Photo ©Jane Windhorst. https://loom.ly/wgTVXGw
