On May 18, Douglas County (Nev.) Sheriff’s Department Deputy Brad Proulx was checking on a disabled vehicle parked at the side of the highway. He quickly learned how things are not often as they appear. For no apparent reason, the driver — armed with an assault rifle — attacked him.
The incident was captured on the deputy’s body camera. The sheriff’s department released the video footage in an effort to educate the public regarding the split-second decisions officers have to make every day.

There's little doubt a scene like this is repeated multiple times a day all across America. But it's rarely captured on film.

After seeing hundreds of officers from around the country cycle to the Washington, D.C., memorial, DiNardo knew he wanted to participate in the Police Unity Tour the following year. He came back from that trip, bought a bike with his wife, and often would ride through local parks with her and their three children behind them.
Two months later, DiNardo was killed in Jersey City in the line of duty.
Tuesday morning, his now 11-year-old daughter Gwendolyn paid tribute to her father as hundreds of police officers from the tri-state area began their 300-mile ride to Washington D.C. to raise money for National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
