One of the biggest stressors parents have is the fear that their child will give in to negative peer pressure that may lead to undesirable behavior such as substance use.

90% of substance abusers started using before the age of 18.

Know the Truth is the preventative program of MnTC, where we travel to middle and high schools across the state to showcase the realities of substance use. If you would like more information on how Know the Truth could visit your school: https://www.mntc.org/programs/know-the-truth-prevention/

"After two to three years of hard core using, I started to feel the impact of using on my life. I started to realize that people around me are dying and going to jail and prison for 20 years, and everyone is leaving to go to rehab. I thought to myself if I don’t change, I was like I’m going to be going to prison or rehab or I’m going to be dead. I didn’t want any of this for my life.

So I moved as far as I could to get away and I moved to Florida. I said I can’t do the meth and the hard stuff anymore, but I turned to alcohol. I was drinking so much that I was crashing cars and getting DUI’s and waking up in jail with a shaved head.

I came back home, and something started happening in Florida that I felt like God was opening up this question in my heart, is there more for my life? Is this what I am made for, partying and drinking at bars? But something in me was just like, I think God has something for me and maybe it starts there (Mn Teen Challenge). So I took the first step and I came to the program. That was where my life was really changed. - MnTC Graduate #MnTC_Testimony

"I’m thirteen years old and I go to this party and I walk in and I could just smell the alcohol. And I knew what alcohol was, I never drank, but I have never made a conscious decision of what would I do if alcohol was presented to me, I had never thought about it. So I drank, and I didn’t intend to get drunk or anything, but I got very drunk that night.

As my life progressed I was going to more parties. I would go to any party that there was, and if there were any other drugs there, I wanted to try all of them. Then around my tenth grade year harder drugs showed up at the parties. So I tried acid, mushrooms, ecstasy, cocaine, and that carried me through high school. The summer after I graduated from high school, right before I went into college, someone had introduced me to meth.

For me, meth was the drug that flipped a switch for me in my head, with meth I was like I don’t want to do anything else but this again, I don’t ever want to feel anything else but this again." - MnTC Graduate (To Be Continued) #MnTC_Testimony

Everyone's gifts and talents are best demonstrated when they are shared with others. Finding purpose in life is realizing that purpose isn't individual but rather collaborative with many. #MondayMotivation
