Benefits for Man's Best Friend
Pet Insurance has been getting more popular in recent years. So popular, in fact, that some companies now even offer pet insurance as part of their employee benefits! 9% (up from 6% last year) of companies on Inc.com's Best Workplaces list offer not only health insurance for their human employees, but are providing discounted pet insurance plans as well.

A company called Criteria Crop, for example, offers 20 percent off of pet insurance for all employees, who can then take the remaining amount out of their checks if they desire - just like with health insurance. If your business isn't quite ready to start offering up pet insurance, contact Halifax Insurance Partners today to make sure your furry companion is taken care of!

Do you have Keyman Insurance for your business?

For many business owners, relying on Keyman Insurance provides an extra set of security in the event a key player in the company can no longer fulfill their obligations to the business. Policies are usually owned by the business and are set up to compensate for any losses incurred from a “key player”. If you have a member of your team that has a unique skill where the loss of their ability to continue to perform their role would be detrimental to the stability and growth of the business, Keyman insurance is definitely an option you want to look into.

Having this insurance can offset unforeseen costs, such as hiring temporary help, and any losses that are a direct result of the loss of the key employee.

To learn more about Keyman Insurance, give Halifax Insurance Partners a call today!

New Year, New Ride?
Are you considering a new car for the New Year? If you're looking to take out a lease, you may need to go over your insurance options. Leasing a car from an auto dealer will not include insurance, so you will need to acquire this on your own. The auto dealer or bank that is financing the car will require you to buy both collision and comprehensive coverage.

Your leasing company may also require "gap" insurance because, in the event of an accident, there is most likely to be a difference between the amount that you still owe your dealer and the payment you will receive from your insurance company.

Why? Because the insurance company's pay out to you is based on the car's actual depreciated cash value. If you are unfortunately involved in an accident that results in a total loss or your leased vehicle is stolen, "gap" coverage will pay the balance of your loan, if greater than the actual cash value of the vehicle. What if your are leasing an automobile for a period of one year or longer that was not previously titled? Your vehicle may be also eligible for "gap" insurance coverage. The comfort of "gap" insurance is that it prevents you from having to pay out of pocket.

Leasing a car in Florida has several other requirements that we can discuss with you in full. Make sure to contact us ASAP.

Baby, it's Cold Outside

When it comes to being a homeowner, you're always looking for ways to save money. That's why you come to us for all your Homeowner's Insurance needs, right? While Floridians do not experience winter the same way the rest of the country does, we still experience a little bit of cold. And unfortunately colder temperatures can also come with some extra expenses.

Here are a few tips on how to protect your home from the cold and try to keep your extra expenses at bay:

1. Invest in a Thermostat You Can Program
A programmable thermostat gives the best control over heat while at home and while away. Not only can this save you money by closely and accurately monitoring the temperature, a programmable thermostat can also prevent the possibility of your heater turning into a fire hazard!

2. Stay at a Minimum of 65 Degrees
If you keep your thermostat too low during the cold (like lowering it too much when you're away from the house), your house can become too cold. "Too cold" can mean frozen pipes bursting and water damage. As a bonus tip, http://allins.com says to leave faucets on a very low drip when you're away from home to keep the water flowing and the pipes unfrozen if you are to be away for an extended period of time.

3. Seal Cracks and Crevices
If your house just never feels warm enough, perhaps your heat (and money) is seeping out through the cracks! Be sure to caulk your windows, and install weather stripping in doorways, pip entryways, and anywhere that opens the home up to cold air drafts.

Along for the Ride
Have you decided that becoming an Uber Driver is the best way to earn extra cash this holiday season? Now is a great time to remember that personal car insurance policies have a list of exclusions, and they often include "driving-for-hire."

If you are driving for a rideshare service, there is a good chance your personal auto insurance policy does not cover "commercial driving." (And, while driving for a ridesharing app, you are collecting your own money - like a commercial business!) Luckily, Uber provides supplemental insurance coverage, but only while the app is on, and a higher level of coverage kicks in when a trip is accepted- and remains active until the passenger exits the vehicle. However, is this enough? What if you are involved in an accident right after your rideshare has ended? Your best bet is to contact Halifax Insurance Partners and consider your insurance options.

'Tis the Season
As we enter the holiday shopping season, many of you will shop online. While online shopping is convenient, there is the threat of package theft. http://Safewise.com estimates that about 23 million Americans have been victims of "porch piracy." Is there a way to protect your packages?

Your first thought may be to insure with the Post Office or other delivery company (FedEx, UPS, etc.). Many people don't realize this only insures throughout the shipping process. Unfortunately, once the package is delivered, their job is finished and the company is not responsible for potential theft. You may not be at a total loss, though. Depending on your Homeowner's or Renter's insurance deductible, you may be able to file a claim once you determine your package is stolen from your home or even from your car. Contact Halifax Insurance Partners to find out if your policy would cover such an incident. In the event that you do need to file a claim for stolen gifts, be sure to hang onto your receipts!
