In a hot Florida summer, the risk of fire is very real. Whether you’ve seen smoke near your home or experienced an actual wildfire, you’ve likely wondered after just how your insurance would protect you in case of damage. Contacting us to review your current coverage is the best way to get peace of mind, but here are a few things that can help reduce the risk of wildfire damage to your property.
1. Check your roof! Debris such as leaves or pine needles can accumulate, creating a huge fire risk. Even if your exterior is made out of fire-retardant materials such as fiber cement, treated wood, concrete, or clay tiles, debris or exposed wood or vinyl is a fire risk!
2. Glass windows will break in a fire. Large windows, or worse, single-pane windows are much more vulnerable to breaking from heat. Switching to dual-pane windows will make your windows and doors much more resistant. Tempered windows also protect the inside of your home from flames and wind-blown embers.
3. Vents provide an entry into your home! All vents should be covered with 1/8-inch metal mesh screens to keep out embers and other burning material. Keep your vents clear of plant matter and other material, in order to stop flames from reaching inside.
Call Mitchell to ask about your insurance.

Like a business or a homeowner, non-profit organizations need to protect its property from loss. Non-profit insurance includes property insurance, liability coverage, business auto insurance, as well as workers’ compensation.
If you’re looking for non-profit insurance, you should consider some of these things:
Directors’ and Officers’ insurance – your board of directors should have some coverage to screen them from claims and actions against the non-profit.
Crime coverage – you should have protection against theft of revenues intended for the non-profit.
Volunteer Accident Insurance – protect your volunteers! The people on the ground carrying out your mission should be covered for injuries sustain while on the job.
Special Events Coverage – if you’re holding a special function or fundraiser, sometimes this will need to be covered by an individual policy.
Call Mitchell today to ask about your insurance.

RVs: Is it a car? Is it a house? Is it a truck? What are they covered under, anyway?
Florida requirements for registration and licensing can vary depending on whether your RV is an unpowered unit that needs to be towed behind a car or a truck, a unit that can be attached to a motor, or a self-powered RV. It’s always best to look for advice on what is needed from you on regards to the law, and also what the best insurance option is to protect your vehicle.
The term ‘Recreational Vehicle’ can also refer to off-road vehicles used for sport, such as quadbikes, ATVs or even golf carts! Mitchell Noel can give you a free quote to figure out if you’re missing any coverage on vehicles that might be confused by terminology or categorized under unusual definition. If it’s on wheels and something you’re looking to blow off some steam or go on an adventure with, we can look at it!
Call Mitchell to ask about your insurance.

Summer and grilling go hand in hand -- fire in the grill, hot dogs and burgers simmering above the flames, and your kids running around in the backyard.  But fire anywhere else can make your summer kick-off barbecue memorable for all the wrong reasons. To keep you and your family safe while grilling, follow these general guidelines:
Before you use your propane grill:
1. Check the major connection points between the gas (propane) tank hose and the regulator and cylinder, and where the hose connects to the burners. Tighten if loose.
2. Check the gas (propane) tank hose for potential (gas) leaks. To do that:
- Apply a light soap and water solution to the hose using a brush or spray bottle.
- Turn the propane tank on. If there is a gas leak, the propane will release bubbles around the hose (big enough to see).
- If there are no bubbles, your grill is safe to use.
3. If there are bubbles, turn off the tank and check connections, then have your grill serviced by a professional before using it again.

4. If the leak doesn’t stop, call the fire department immediately.

When the grill is on:
1. As you are cooking, if you smell gas, turn off the gas tank and burners.
2. If the leak stops immediately, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again.
3. If the smell continues, move away from the grill and call the fire department immediately. Do not move the grill.

Sometimes accidents happen, or our health fails us, and we have to spend extensive time under care. These days long term care can become hideously expensive: even a short stay in a nursing facility can cost thousands of dollars, to think nothing of a longer stay under care in a hospital or with help at home.

If you need to take a while to recover, our long term care coverage helps make sure that you can focus on getting healthy without your financial health being at stake. Don’t let a temporary hole in your healthcare coverage become a permanent hole in your bank account. Our policies include nursing care, home health care services, as well as custodial care.

Call Mitchell today to ask about your insurance.

Don’t let your taste for sweets put a hole in your bank account as well as in your teeth! Dentists recommend a check-up at least once a year, and we recommend proper insurance to cover the costs of having someone tap on those prized chompers.
Dental insurance used to be commonly included in most health plans, but nowadays it can be an additional policy that you need to pay for separately. Not only does dental insurance cover you for routine care, such as x-rays and cleanings, but it can shield you from the large bills associated with extensive procedures like root canals, extractions and fillings.
Don’t be confused about your coverage. At Mitchell Noel, we’ll look in to your options and give you advice for the best policy. Just as everyone and every family has different needs, we’ll give you different advice based on your specific circumstances, in order to make sure that YOU are covered in the best way that you can be.

Call Mitchell to find out more about your insurance.

We’ve been getting some rain in the area, so now is a great time to look at your flood insurance. Lack of preparation can be serious, and you don’t need to be in a flood zone to have flood insurance. In fact, we recommend it even if you aren’t! 25% of flood claims come from lower risk areas, and we have policies that lower rates to lower risk areas, so there’s no reason not to be insured. If it rains where you live, it can flood. Don’t pay $7,000 in repairs for the damage that only one to four inches of water can do, when you can be paying $405 annually for coverage that can protect you for up to $100,000 in costs.
Call Mitchell to ask about your insurance.

Are you covered for some summer fun?
Insurance is definitely not on most individual's minds when they are preparing for summer fun… We noticed first hand that playgrounds, pools and swing sets are great for the children of your home, but each are an attractive nuisance. (An attractive nuisance is basically something that is attractive enough to make a child trespass onto your yard but poses a potential risk to the child; this can basically be anything on your land.)

For most neighbors there is an assumed agreement that if their child gets hurt on the other's property they will take full responsibility for their own child's injury. But people really love to point the finger and there is nothing that can't keep your neighbor from turning around and trying to sue you for injuries.

If you install a pool but DO NOT tell your agent about it and a child gets hurt, your claim may be denied. Similarly to a pool, call your agent and let them know about your playground. Normally you won't need to change anything in your policy but you may want to take a look at the amount of liability insurance you do have and ensure that it would be enough to take care of injuries caused to others.

Looking to get your watercraft insured? The first thing you’ll have to consider is the size. Generally, vessels are classified as “boats” if they are 26 feet or less, and “yachts” when longer than 27 feet. Yacht owners have special needs for coverage, as their vessels range further, and have more unique insurance needs.
Our boat insurance coverage might include such things as coverage of injuries, property damage liability, guest passenger liability, medical payments, theft of onboard items, and sometimes towing coverage if your boat breaks down. We might also suggest an umbrella policy that covers your home and car, in addition to your boat. Trailers or other accessories could be included in an umbrella policy, or under a boat policy.
You might be eligible for discounts on your insurance if you have a diesel powered boat, an approved fire extinguisher on board, ship-to-shore radio, an extended period of insurance without claims, or boat safety education from the Coast Guard Auxiliary, US Power Squadrons, or American Red Cross.
Call Mitchell today to find out about your insurance.

If you’re planning on living in the #shores  , you’ll know the importance of getting your condominium properly insured. But as necessary as it is, condominium insurance can be incredibly complex, as it often depends on what is considered the owner’s responsibility, and what is the responsibility of the condominium #association .
It’s easy to say that the unit owner is responsible for the interior of their unit, and the association for everything else, but where does the line end? Is the owner responsible for the walls and flooring? What about what’s inside the walls: their plumbing and electrical work? Mitchell Noel is able to help determine your coverage needs and responsibilities for damages.
We also have policies that protect high value possessions that are usually not covered under a typical homeowner’s policy, like antiques and jewelry, and policies that address liabilities of children, pets and other family members.
Call Mitchell to ask about your insurance.

With #boatingseason  upon us, here are some things you should be looking for when purchasing a #boatinsurancepolicy . Your boat is possibly the second largest investment you'll ever make. Take the time to explore and understand your insurance options and remember, price should not be the issue.

If you plan to leave your 'home' cruising grounds, be sure you're covered. This is especially true if you plan foreign travel to the Caribbean, Canada or Mexico. You might need an endorsement.

Look for an arbitration clause under the Claim #settlement   section. It's your guarantee that when you get into a difference of opinion, you'll have a third party to help make a fair call.

See what the deductible is and if it varies depending on the claim issue, like hurricane coverage. Understand what salvage is and how if affects your claim.

You should never be without adequate #liabilityinsurance . Accidents do happen and you could be in a situation where someone is seriously hurt or you caused major damage to another boat or facility. A minimum coverage of $500,000 is recommended, and based on your individual situation, it could be considerably higher.

We live in a litigious society and your agent should be able to suggest a realistic and meaningful coverage to keep you protected. At Mitchell Noel, we're committed to finding the best policy that works for YOU.

Mitchell Noel does such a great job with my homeowners insurance that I brought them another policy for a quote. They researched all of their companies to try to find a better deal, but ended up advising me to stay with my current carrier - because of my longetivity with that company they couldn't beat the rate. That kind of honesty speaks for itself in any industry.
