We get a lot of inquiries about perches. We also get phone calls on a fairly regular basis that go something like this:

"Hi I'd like to return the perch that I just got from you."

"No problem why's that, is it defective?"

"Yes it is, it's too big and my bird keeps slipping off of it."

"I'm sorry to hear that.

We get lots of phone calls at Windy City Parrot covering many bird care topics. A recurring subject that arises is an "inherited" bird. Most recently a gentleman called to inquire about Bird Travel Carriers.

We always ask 2 questions in response to inquiries such as these. 1) What kind of bird? 2) How will the bird carrier be used? We always want to make sure we're providing the appropriate equipment.

Today's science lesson: because birds are small and have a high need for energy they can digest food rapidly. This is one reason young birds mature quickly and migrating birds are able to store fat which enables long flights. There are species of birds that are known to increase their weight 40% in 10 days.

Birds may break up their food or crush it with their bill, they don't chew it.

I'm working on the rest of the joke. Aging birds do have unique needs that must be addressed - and are below

You may have noticed the live help tab at the bottom of the site coming on now and then: Here’s a “fly on the wall” look l

Chatting with Guest (Egypt)

You: hello how can I help?

Visitor: I brought 2 Indian parrots 6 months old yesterday.

That is not really a fair question. The personality of a captive bird is determined by many factors and the environment that humans provide for them.

The bigger question is are we seeing the paratroop personality or does being a captain of bird change everything? In other words would a bird be different in the wild than in captivity?

There is no single event,

Hypothetical - a 21st century genie sits down next you on a park bench. He looks pretty normal and explains that the whole genie thing has evolved along with modern society.

The dapper young lad named Gene (really?) goes on to say;

"The new rules are that you still get three wishes but "me" the genie decides what they are? It'll be fun.

Wish number one is from this point forward you will have the ability to fly.

It gets better.

Dear Nora

Birds can be difficult when trying new foods, I am asking the company for their suggestions on conversion.

I will get back to you.

Hi Nora,

One of the problems we see is that birds get bored in general when simply eating out of a bowl full of food.

Hagen alternative formula parrot pellets might not be as pretty as fruit and flower shapes.
