Welcome to another exciting Misnomer Up/Close featured on Google Hangout on Air.

We are excited to introduce to you the first of our three new Dance-Making Series hangouts featuring our very own Chris Elam of Misnomer Dance Theater and one of our creative partners Wendy Rein & Ryan T. Smith of RAW Dance in San Francisco, CA.

Chris will be choreographing a piece in real-time on two dancers here with Misnomer (Coco Karol and Lily Shapiro) in SoHo, New York at the Rebecca Kelly Ballet Studio, while Wendy & Ryan will learn the same choreography remotely via this Google Hangout on Air.

We want you to watch the session in real-time to see the creative process. We're also inviting dance students to learn the choreography from their locations as well!

At the end of thirty-minutes, Wendy and Ryan will perform what they've learned from Chris.

We'll wrap this session with a ten-minute discussion between RAW Dance and Misnomer about their initial impressions on the session, followed by Q&A from you, our audience and dancers watching.

If you're a dancer watching this hangout, WE WANT YOU:
1) UPLOAD your video publicly to Youtube
2) SHARE on your Facebook, Twitter and Vimeo accounts
3) TAG us with the hashtag #MisnomerUpClose

Here's the answer to a question we received during today's event ("Do you find the delays in timing affect the way that you run the phrase together, as you did at the end? Are both groups in the same moment or is there a delay?"). The way that Google Hangout on Air works is that Hangout viewers see a feed that is automatically delayed by a few minutes but Hangout participants see and hear each other in real-time. The streaming experience between the dance studios in NYC and San Fran was instantaneous for the most part (similar to the experience of video Skyping). When the dancers in NYC and San Fran were running the phrases together, what I heard and saw on the laptop screen was mostly in sync, which which was useful for teaching. However, there were a few times when I saw and heard a delay; I believe this may be due to bandwidth.
