Wedding in La Pause, Wedding in Marrakech. The life of a wedding photographer can be a fun one - especially when you get the opportunity to cover a wedding in Marrakesh! Bridal couple Lisa and Henrry are from Utah in the United States but had their hearts set on marrying in Morocco. Lisa runs an online artisan jewellery store, and because of her work gets to travel to some wonderfully bohemian places around the world. When she stumbled across the hotel La Pause, she knew it was the ideal place for her wedding.

When I was asked to document their special day I was totally thrilled. Based in the south of Spain, northern Africa isn’t that far for me to travel - so I have had the joy of taking part in a number of weddings and shoots there over the years. I'm available for wedding in Marrakech.

But a wedding in La Pause is something else! Situated in the middle of the Moroccan desert, the hotel has no electric lighting, outdoor showers and is surrounded by nothing but rolling sand dunes.

The wedding in La Pause, was all about the couple’s friends and family. Everyone took part in making their wedding in Marrakesh a success, with one friend styling the bride’s hair, another in charge of the make-up and another creating a beautiful floral crown out of local olive branches. Lisa had even gifted all the female guests with jewellery from her collection to wear on her special day, having posted items along with the invitations before the wedding.

The bride looked like a magical mirage in lace as she rode to the ceremony on the back of a camel. With the sun setting, and the dunes glowing pink in the afternoon light, the wedding guests were treated to the sounds of a local guitarist as Lisa and Henrry said ‘I do’ beneath a floral canopy and a backdrop of endless desert.

There’s nothing I like more than a wedding that breaks all the rules, and this wedding in Lindos Huespedes was even better than that because it wasn’t even a wedding - it was simply a day put aside for the celebration of love!

Lindos Huespedes is a stunning farmhouse in the Catalunya region of Spain. Surrounded by rice fields and forests, this tranquil escape is the perfect rustic backdrop for any celebration. Once an old mill, its bright blue wooden doors contrast wildly with the aged stone facade that lends the building a romantic air. When I was asked to be the photographer for this couple’s special day I jumped at the chance. Not only is Lindos Huespedes an ideal wedding location, full of character and hidden gems, but it’s near where I grew up so for me it was like going home.

I absolutely loved this kooky couple and their guests. Although there was nothing usual or traditional about their day, for me it had everything a perfect wedding should...a lot of love. wedding in Lindos Huespedes
The non-bride and groom wanted a day to celebrate their unity without the official service. Their ‘ceremony’ was held by the bride’s brother who conducted it in true Las Vegas style complete with dressing up as Elvis and singing the couple a song.

Vanessa wore a stunning yet simple lace dress by Pilar (Aglaya Atelier) with Jimmy Choo shoes and jewellery by Teresa Helbig. Because it was October, the non-bride wore a white top over her dress, completing her elegant yet relaxed look for her unique day. Vanessa’s make-up was by Diana Gali, a fantastic friend of mine who I love working with, and as it wasn’t a ‘proper’ wedding there was no bouquet or over-the-top floral decorations. The rest of the decorations were managed by her friend and Barcelona florist from Au nom de la Rose. The couple wanted a simple day and concentrated on what really mattered...celebrating their love for one another among their nearest and dearest. wedding in Lindos Huespedes
Straight after the vows the guests were served a mouth-watering meal at a long table beneath the arches of the finca. Airolo Catering’s food, much like the day, was inventive and fantastic. The couple enjoyed fresh grilled fish, local meats along with a gloriously sumptuous dessert buffet. This was all washed down with plenty of wine and cocktails.

With such a fun and informal day, it didn’t take long for everyone to be laughing and dancing. As the moon began to rise, the wedding guests at the only non-wedding I have had the pleasure to shoot, ended the night eating roasted chestnuts by the fire. Friends, family, laughter, good food, beautiful surroundings and love. Is there really anything more to life?

What an amazing summer I have had! And to top it all off I’ve had the chance to work on one of my favourite weddings ever, thanks to the wonderful Anna and Daniel and their boho wedding in Mas del Mar on the Costa Brava.
The location was an ancient Masia situated in San Pere Pescador in Spain’s Eastern coast, with spectacular sea views and typical Spanish decor. It was my first wedding at San Pere Pescador and  I am hoping it won’t be my last.
As a wedding photographer in Marbella I am used to the glitz and glamour of the Costa del Sol, but one of my favourite places to travel to for weddings in the Costa Brava.
I knew from the start that this bohemian couple were going to be a dream to work with, they have since become good friends…they are one of the kindest, super cool and fun couples that I have worked with. Anna is from Barcelona and Daniel from Italy. When it comes to fashion you couldn’t get more cutting edge that these two – Anna is a designer for high street retailer Mango and Daniel also works in fashion, which is how they met. Anna was the epitome of the perfect boho bride and Daniel the ever-elegant Italian gent. Their super stylish friends, who travelled from all over Europe including Milan and Barcelona, completed the day as the most fashionable wedding I have ever worked at.
The couple got ready in separate rooms - Daniel with his four best friends and Anna enjoyed a glass of bubbly with her friends as they helped her into her exquisite Yoland Cris wedding gown. The dress was spectacular and so unique in its head to toe lace and long sleeves – and the Boho Bridal look was completed with make-up by my friend Diana Galí, who I have had the honor of working with at several weddings before.Look here and  them.
Anna’s wild flower garland hair crown and beautiful bouquet was by Estudio Sauvage, one of Barcelona’s most talented florists.
Daniel wore an Italian-cut dark blue suit with amazing shoes which were also in blue. The combination of Anna’s Spanish boho bridal look and Daniel’s smart Italian style blew me and all the guests away as soon as they were reunited at the altar.
The ceremony took place in the beautiful little town of Sant Marti D’empuries and the bride arrived at the chapel in a white Meary car filled with flowers, she couldn’t have looked cooler. After the ceremony I took the couple on a little walk around the local countryside to take some pictures on film, which I knew would add to the retro vibe. Most couples get nervous or embarrassed in front of the camera, but this couple were so in love they kept stopping to kiss and smile.
The Mas del Mar wedding venue was perfectly decorated to suit the boho wedding vibe. The pre-dinner drinks were enjoyed in the ‘campo’, where there were fun tepee tents and rugs for guests to lie on and soak up the Spanish sun. The catering was supplied by Cal Blay with a variety of food stations for guests to help themselves to such as delicious local cheeses and Daniel’s favourite wines. During the cocktail hour guests chilled out and listened to a great soul jazz group just chatting, eating and getting to know each other.
As the day progressed, photos were taken and speeches were made and then the guests were lead to dinner which was under the stars and twinkling fairy lights at one large long table. Everything was decorated with tiny colourful vases of wild flowers, and family had all contributed to the day by lending the couple plates, cutlery, glasses and linen to complete the Spanish Boho wedding vibe. It was such an original idea that brought everyone together and made the day so visually perfect in every way. What more could you expect from such a creative couple!
