My new column for +Sprout Social: The ever-shortening attention span of consumers, coupled with increasing competition, has made marketing more challenging than ever for companies doing business online. In Q1 2015, 77.5% of retail website shoppers abandoned their cart. It’s even more dire in travel, where over 82% of carts are abandoned. Across all sectors, the cart abandonment rate the first quarter of this year was 75.6%. What a waste!

You invested in SEO, social media marketing, paid social ads, banners and other channels to get people to your website in the first place. You were doing alright on targeting in the first place and getting high intent shoppers to actually place items in the cart. Are you just going to let them walk away?

Not a chance.
Creating Custom Audiences and remarketing to them with Facebook Ads is a fantastic opportunity to recapture your lost traffic and convert more buyers.

We're having the wrong conversation about #JianGhomeshi. This week, a few prominent Canadian women felt it necessary to take to social media to voice their support for a man just accused of sexually assaulting and physically battering several women.

This is the conversation Elizabeth May and Sheila Copps, as prominent Canadians, policymakers and self-proclaimed women’s advocates or feminists, could be leading.

Goodbye, Google Authorship.

I’ve been involved since we first started testing authorship markup and displaying it in search results. We've gotten lots of useful feedback from all kinds of webmasters and users, and we've tweaked, updated, and honed recognition and displaying of authorship information. Unfortunately, we've also observed that this information isn’t as useful to our users as we’d hoped, and can even distract from those results. With this in mind, we've made the difficult decision to stop showing authorship in search results.

(If you’re curious -- in our tests, removing authorship generally does not seem to reduce traffic to sites. Nor does it increase clicks on ads. We make these kinds of changes to improve our users’ experience.)

On a personal note, it's been fun and interesting travelling the road of authorship with all of you. There have been weird quirks, bugs, some spam to fight, but the most rewarding thing has been (and will continue to be) interacting with webmasters themselves. We realize authorship wasn't always easy to implement, and we greatly appreciate the effort you put into continually improving your sites for your users.  Thank you!

Going forward, we're strongly committed to continuing and expanding our support of structured markup (such as schema.org). This markup helps all search engines better understand the content and context of pages on the web, and we'll continue to use it to show rich snippets in search results.

It’s also worth mentioning that Search users will still see Google+ posts from friends and pages when they’re relevant to the query — both in the main results, and on the right-hand side. Today’s authorship change doesn’t impact these social features.

As always, we’ll keep expanding and improving the set of free tools we provide to make it easier for you to optimize your sites. Thank you again, and please keep the feedback coming.

My two kids (8 & 9) and I just spent a week here and absolutely loved it. I didn't realize they had so many kids activities and amenities when we booked, but was glad we ended up where we did. Our back-in trailer site was a good size, close to the pool and not too far to walk to the laundry, camp store and washrooms. Each week, they have a theme for the kids activities, with daily "crafternoons" and late afternoon games, all keeping within that theme. On the weekend, they had all kinds of games for the kids, a bounce castle, a magician, etc. Sunday mornings they do a pancake breakfast, which was great. Twice in the week we were there, they did "movies under the stars" on a big inflatable movie screen, complete with muskoka chairs and citronella candles on end tables. I'd definitely bring the kids here again. The camp store was reasonable and the staff were super friendly. I had a pressure headache from the weather and Gaye in the store gave me the last Tylenol from her purse, since I can't take Advil. Overall a great time with nice people, highly recommended.
