While airports around the World are in fierce competition to secure their share of the growing air travel market, in some quarters they are already thinking one step ahead, looking into an era of private space travel, whose beginning we are just witnessing. Ellington airport, in Houston, Texas, is one such places. The facility, that currently operates private and government flights, has been approved by the FAA as a spaceport, the 10...

No doubt that aviation is ideal for all sort of creative compositions. Whether it is hyperlapsed Instagram posts or time-lapsed landing videos, flying makes for impressive visual material. This time is Japanese blogger darwinfish105 has brought us this amazing video that combines time-lapsed with other techniques to give us an unusual view of operations at Tokyo Haneda airport. Enjoy!

This is one of the most awesome liveries I have seen so far on the, already awesome by itself, Boeing 747-400. The creature on the nose of this Transaero jumbo jet is non other than an Amur Tiger (also known as Siberian Tiger), a large feline that lives in Russia's Far East regions. This special painting aims to raise awareness about the predicament of the Amur tiger, that is currently under threat of extinction, with only 510 to ...

One of my passtimes every time I travel to the US is to collect quarter dollar coins of the "50 State Quaters" series, that depict each one of the American states. Source: Wikipedia And you might wonder: why am I writing about coins on an aviation blog? Well, because, Southwest airlines is doing pretty much the same thing with its Boeing 737 liveries!  In what could be deemed the airline equivalent of the "50 State Quarter ser...

New ideas are always at a premium in a technologically-advanced industry like aviation. And sometimes a bit of out-of-the-box thinking is just what it is needed, this is possibly what Airbus is looking to get by launching a number of initiatives aimed at  For example, the "Fly your Ideas" competition, that has collected over 500 aviation-related ideas from students from all over the World. A €30,000 prize is at stake and we have a...

It looks like the "wineglass" departure hall at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport Terminal B will not be around for much longer. The building, that looks like straight out of a 1960s science-fiction film, is going to be demolished to make way to a completely new terminal capable of handling 15M passengers a year. I had the chance to use Terminal B last year and it certainly could do with some refurbishment...it is going to be sad to see ...

Remarkable social media initiative by Turkish Airlines, that has just pioneered (as far as I am aware of!) the use of mobile live video app Periscope to broadcast an Istanbul to New York flight.  The broadcast, that was viewed, on aggregate, by an audience of tens of thousands started with the crew's preparation before the flight and then continued while on flight, taking advantage of in-flight wi-fi, and then followed the crew after...

The Airbus A380 has made a brief appearance on the latest FC Barcelona promotional video, with the Camp Nou, FC Barcelona's stadium, converted into an improvised airport runway. We have documented the relationship between FC Barcelona and its sponsor airlines, first Turkish Airlines, then and to this date, Qatar Airways. Given Qatar Airways has A380s in its fleet and it is also the Catalan football club main sponsor, why the video f...

One of the beautiful things about the airline industry is that despite the complex challenges that it involves, there is no shortage of entrepreneurs ready to give it a go. One of the latest: a  new ultra-low cost airline in Canada called Jetlines.  While Jetlines awaits regulatory approval and the closing of a funding round, they have started to work on thier social media channels and website and they have been releasing some detail...

Russian airline Transaero has finally started to roll out its new livery. The unveiling of the airline's new corporate identity, a work of the British agency StartJG, was planned for late 2014, however it got postponed due to the complicated situation of the Russian airline industry at that time. Transaero plans to transition its fleet to the new identity progressively as it continues its renovation programme. For example, this ver...
