What is Minimalism
A trend in design that today almost all of us are familiar with. A trend that grew to be one of the most desired and inspirational both for customers and designers. A jewel in the modern design and also as Ludwig Rohe said "Less is More" a trend that is associated with a bigger 'slice' of taste, luxury and wealth by keeping things simple.
But lets go
back and dig a little history to understand better how and what started one of
the most significant design movements of 21st century. It actually began
spreading in the 20th century and from then penetrated the design industry in
all of its forms and variations. From simple things like your computer or
mouse, to furniture, to cars, to great houses of glamour. One of the influences
of minimalism is Japanese traditional design and architecture, as well as the work of De Stijl artists who promoted
generalization and universality by reduction to the essentials of form and
color. Which to summarize means, simple forms, squares, circles and lines –
Nothing fussy! Simple colors, natural materials, natural woods and his majesty
white, enough of all the multi color floral upholstery!
And that is exactly what we needed especially in post-World War environment - Simplicity and freedom. New order to chase away the over decorated design of the previous periods, as well as to simplify our crowded and intense every day lives. Because lets face it, we no longer live in the times where space in the cities was there, instead there are more and more buildings rising up every day, we no longer live in the times where everyday life was simple and to a point calming. No - industries, development, technologies forced us into a new live faster then we were ready to assimilate.

The minimalist design is just that - simple, clear, light and spacious. The clear and minimalistic lines of furniture or architecture feed our senses with all of the above. Why? Because a simple design doesn’t load your eyes with texture, forms and colors which makes it heavy and complex to look at, instead what you get is clarity, much like looking a still vast lake. And isn’t that comforting!
