The US Women's National Soccer Team parades up on Broadway on July 10th 2015 in their own ticker tape parade following the FIFA Women's World Cup win. See a glimpse of Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan.

This was shot at the corner of Wall St. and Broadway. For pictures see https://goo.gl/photos/mwGTT21qzVmd58Fi7

Ever wanted a dead-simple app that displays New York transit maps (subway, bus, bike, commuter trains) with a single click in full-screen mode without all the clutter and ads? I ended up developing one myself here.

Why move? Bldn 44 was way nicer. You could find an actual treasure in the basement of that building.

I am so happy that our country is moving a step forward today. Proud to be supporting marriage equality for many years and I am ecstatic to see that equality prevailed today with the SCOTUS decision to legalize marriage across all 50 states.   #proudtolove #lovewins #marriageequality

Proud of this company, proud of my smart and open-minded friends, and proud of the company I work for taking a stand on tolerance.

As an aside, my parents are still married, I haven't suddenly become gay, and I haven't seen God vengefully smite our country yet.

Guess everything's still more or less intact, including Traditional Marriage(tm).

Call loved ones in Nepal for 1 cent per minute

To help people communicate with friends and loved ones in Nepal, we’re reducing the cost of calls through Google Voice into the country for the next week from 19 cents to 1 cent (that’s 0.01 USD, with similar cost in other supported currencies) per minute.  We chose 1 cent, instead of making calls free, to prevent spammers from abusing our systems and possibly adding more load to the already stretched Nepalese telephone network.

If you don’t have a Google Voice number, you can make calls at this reduced rate using the Hangouts Dialer (http://goo.gl/Fxv5WK) on an Android phone, or through your computer (http://goo.gl/Qw7JZL), from most places around the world (http://goo.gl/teHdiO)

Already, people in Nepal with a data connection can use Hangouts or Gmail to call phones in the U.S. and Canada for free, while calls to India are 1 cent per minute.  Voice or video calls between Google accounts are always free.  Please note that telecom infrastructure has been impacted in the country, so lines may be busy or unavailable at times.

New York's bike-sharing program Citibike interviewed me the other day, and here is my member profile that was posted this morning on their blog.
From the author of the Absolute Beginner’s Guide to the New York Subway, Minh N. is a Software Engineer, public transportation supporter and lover of Central Park.  He grew up  in Germany, works in Chelsea and now lives in the Upper West Side. We’d say he’s quite the adventurer. Photo Courtesy of Minh N. Why did you choose Citi Bike? I am a big fan of public transportation, and while the subway gets me to most places in the city, I have found t...

Well-organized large operation. We made reservations a few days ahead, and on the day of the trip, the weather was raining a bit, and they were very easy about giving us a rain check when we asked for it. We ended up taking the risk and going anyways though. Check-in was quick and easy, and we waited only ten minutes until they called us and drove us and others in large bus to the drop off points. At the drop off point some 10 miles up the river (there was another shorter one that is only 5 miles up) , other staff members gave us a short instruction/safety spiel, and we were on our way on our raft/kayak within 15 minutes of drop off. Tip: during the instruction speech, try to position yourself further down towards the rafts -- that's how we got to be the first group out. We had a fun trip down the river.

This is a small place with lots of light bulbs. If they don't carry it here, you probably won't find it elsewhere in the city. The folks there are really nice and upbeat, and helped me find a replacement for a special light bulb I needed. The prices are very cheap too.

Summary: It took 5 phone calls and 36 hours to receive the certificate of insurance 30 minutes *after* the delivery was already at my building. I hate to add yet another negative review to the string of bad reviews but I have to. These folks run a disorganized mess of an operation. I had Ikea furniture that was supposed to be delivered on a Tuesday between 9am to 7pm (yup, that's the window I had to work with). On Monday morning, I email them stating that my building requires a certificate of insurance along with all the details and requirements. I immediately received an automated email with a ticket number back. By 2pm, I call them on the phone and they promised that I will get the COI by end of day. At 6pm I call them again and they said that I shouldn't worry and that I will get the COI first thing in the morning before my delivery around 3pm. On Tuesday morning at 10:30am, I receive a robocall stating that the delivery is 30 minutes out. Confused and concerned, I call them again stressing that my building will deny access if the COI doesn't arrive before the delivery. They promised yet again that the COI will arrive before 3pm and that the robocall is incorrect. At 2pm, I call them a fourth time, and they promised me that I will get the COI "within the next 20 minutes". Two hours later, with no COI received, the delivery arrived at my building. My super was kind enough to start letting them in without a COI, while I call them a fifth time -- this time insisting to stay on the phone until I receive the COI. This is when I finally received it via email. This entire ordeal took 5 phone calls and 36 hours. In each call, they kept on asking me the same questions: when did I send the email? Which email did I send it from and which email did I send it to? It seems these people don't even have a case management system. I don't mind that COIs take a while, but I mind the disingenuous/inaccurate statements and promises given. If my super wasn't nice about it, he would have denied access to the building. I honestly don't understand how Ikea continues to work with them with all these negative reviews. I will email this review to Ikea and recommend others to do the same.

This review is strictly for the Mtoni Palace Ruins tour/dinner and concert. Do it. I believe they have the dinner concert only on Tuesdays, so you have to book in advance. The tour guide was some conservationist and he personally gave you a tour of the ruins. The highlight though was to actually have dinner at the center of the palace ruins. It's a small square courtyard with some nice tables, candles light on the floor and absolutely stunning setting. While you are having dinner, you'll get exposed to Zanzibar culture, food, dance and music. It really was a magnificent dinner to remember.
