Let me tell you why learning English at Milner School is a once in a lifetime experience. Maybe there are other newer, or bigger or even posher schools of English, but what makes Milner unique is its staff and philosophy. You aren´t another statistic in its figures. You are a person who is called by his or her name. From scratch, a close-knit team takes his time for two crucial questions: checking thoroughly your level of English and finding out what you want to achieve. Perhaps IELTS for academic purposes or First or Advanced for working or, simply, General English for fun. Anyway, they give you advice about which one suits you better. The system is flexible so if you work hard or have a natural gift for languages and, eventually, go quicker than it was expected, you can be “promoted” to higher levels, which is always good news for your motivation. Other thing that helps: the number of students per classroom, ideal for making constantly contributions during the lesson in order to improve your skills. What about the teachers? Definitely, they´re worth their weight in gold. Both committed and inspirying, they develop all their expertise so that you can learn by enjoying. With their methods and techniques they put you on the way and, at the end of the day, the results come out. The head of this body is at the reception. Another mark of accessibility. Also its heart. Hands-on people, charismatic ones, ready to sort out all your domestic and academic queries, from minor details to key issues. After all, you are in a foreign country, with other rules, without your family, sometimes for a long time, so sooner or later you´ll need support. There you´ll find the best one. Time for a break. The canteen is your place. Nice cappuccinos and better sandwiches in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You´ll never feel alone. International environment for sure. It´s the meeting point, where everything starts…, not only the social programme. By the way, the social programme is amazing. I´m not going to reveal its contents to you. Just two or three headlines to get an insight about it: Chelsea Stadium, BBC Studios or The Wimbledon Tournament, in summer. Browse the pictures on the website or facebook for further information… Beautiful faces, nice sights, aren´t they? But it´s high time I personalised. I´m from Spain, where speaking English correctly is a sort of impossible summit. When I arrived at Milner I was a clumsy intermediate speaker. After six months of hard work (no miracles at all!), I´m a confident advanced one. In a way, I reached that summit and, between you and me, the view is breathtaking. Needless to say, my employment prospects in both Spain and UK have increased dramatically. When I left the school my rucksack hardly shut. Imagine… Two prestigious certificates (FCE + CAE), close friends throughout the world, countless fond memories and the best tip ever: Making mistakes is the only way to improve. So, don´t be shy. Milner School is waiting for you. It´s up to you to make it unforgettable!

Since I'm a bit of an old fart and I attended Milner for the last time four years ago, I'm probably about to praise a lot of things that aren't there anymore, such as Rita's moreish toasted sandwiches or Edward's equally remarkable social activities. Oh, wait. Somewhat unbelievably, Edward's actually still around. If you're not lucky enough to have him as a teacher, you can't really miss him if you hang around the cafeteria on Monday afternoons for the welcome drinks (although I've been told that it had been downgraded from exquisite wine to coke and juice) or on Friday afternoons for the social program activities (usually including a tour of Stamford Bridge, the London Aquarium, Windsor Castle, the Wimbledon tennis museum and many more). When you do see him, say hi from me, he'll know what that means. Anyway, enough with the jokes. When I first got to Wimbledon in summer of 2008, I fell head over heels in love with the area. Wimbledon is obviously the ideal location for a school, with the tennis grounds nearby (if you love tennis, do visit the Tennis Gallery at Wimbledon Park Tube station as well, great books and stuff and Richard, the owner, is a great tennis conversationalist), an extremely nice park full of tennis courts, a couple of great pubs, an amazing Italian restaurant (Al Forno), just to mention a few of its attractions. I also wanted to mention the weather but I thought better of it. Anyway. The fact that it's not exactly in central London also helps. Indeed, it's far enough from the center to avoid the crowd (having to walk through Piccadilly, Leicester Square or Covent Garden during the holidays on a daily basis can be exhausting) and close enough to be easily reachable by Tube (around 30 minutes). You won't miss any of London's best spots while being able to relax when you get home. Obviously, the school itself had a big part in my hitting it off immediately with the Wimbledon area. It's a small school, granted, the first time you walk down The Broadway from Wimbledon station, you might pass it without noticing it. But its size can also be an asset since you get to know almost everyone pretty easily in such small surroundings. I attended Milner three summers in a row between 2008 and 2010 and I can tell you that I've made friends for life. I have people to visit in many European countries as well as Brazil and I recently caught up with two of my best international buddies in Prague, Czech Republic. As far as my English is concerned, that was my first experience in immersion, speaking English 24/7, studying in small classes (10-12 students maximum in this kind of language schools if I'm not mistaken), which is very different from what happens when you study English in a non English-speaking country - at least in Switzerland where I'm from. Moreover, I had great teachers all three times I was at Milner. Although most of them have moved on to other schools/country, I'm sure the current teaching staff is still living up to their billing. Speaking of staff, never hesitate to go down to reception if you have any questions. Julia (the director of studies) and Amanda (the registrar) will always welcome you with a smile and are extremely helpful. You've probably been told that if you throw a stone in London (and in Wimbledon by extension) it'll probably land on a language school. That's true. There's a million of possibilities if you want to learn English in London. So if you want to improve your English while having fun socializing with international people in one of the most beautiful areas in the UK - nay, the world - Milner School should be on top of your list. This school has definitely changed the way I see the English language. Truth be told, I'm actually an English teacher now, which has been my true calling ever since I stepped foot in the City. Heck, just the thought of Wimbledon's unique atmosphere makes me want to book a flight to Gatwick. Just sayin'... ;-) Raphaël, Lausanne, Switzerland

Milner school is a grate school situated in Wimbledon, in which you can enjoy a friendly atmosphere. The staff is always available to help you and solve your problems, the teachers are careful and they really want you succeed and improve your English. They also try to make you feel at easi and avoid the boredom during the lessons. duty before pleasure, in fact at the break and lunch time you can have a great variety of food, snacks and hot and cold drinks served by a solar staff. Every Wednesday and Friday you can join the social programs that are a good opportunity to enjoy your time, spend it with a lot of mates and visit or discover London;)

One of the great English schools. The school is not modern and big but it is cosy and comfortable. Staff and teachers are friendly and sympathetic. Seasonal events and social program such as Christmas party, welcome drink, pub night, watching football matches and afternoon tea were brilliant when I was there. Honestly I had a wonderful time there. In addition, the area where the school locates is calm and safe. Even when the riot happened in London a few years ago there was not any problem around this area. So I am sure that you will like it!!
