The issues of managing a civilization are ugly enough that the general public finds it a lot easier to pretend it's ill-rational to even broach some topics let alone speak them plainly in the language of the land.....

Went shopping downtown last week and took these photos from some cool hotel.

The carvings are from Karim Khan Zand, the king of Iran in mid-1700s, and some other monuments in Shiraz.

Scientists say that they have chosen femtosecond display nanoseconds because it is safer for the skin because there is not enough time to warm up and damage.

Debates are an utterly irrational institution, which should not exist in a reasonable world. In a debate, the assumption is that each participant has a position, and must keep to this position whatever eventuates in the interchange. In a debate, it is an institutional impossibility (i.e., if it happened, it would no longer be a debate) for one person to say to the other: that’s a good argument, I will have to change my views accordingly. But the latter option is the essence of any interchange among rational people. So calling it a debate is wrong to start with and contributes to ways of thinking and behaving that should be abandoned.
