In a nutshell I make WordPress better. Look for me at WordCampNYC 2014 -> http://2014.nyc.wordcamp.org/ I design High Performance WordPress solutions by utilizing proper master slave replicated MySql databases engines and the HyperDB drop-in tuned to maximize balancing of read and write operations. I am overhauling our caching solutions and because the file/disk based caching mechanisms we have in place are grossly inadequate for a load-balanced multiserver environment. Thankfully memcahced and Batcache are fairly straight forward once you understand the nuances. In addition I am currently working on making WordPress play nice with PHPcs and PHPUnit. I hope to deploy centralized log hosting as well as centralized time synching (NTP) to get the infrastructure on a solid footing and eventually implement Jenkins CI. I still feel that git is superior to svn in a distributed environment and that it is a better fit for Continuous Integration. For now I am working with the tools that I have been given, nudging the team in a better direction. This means setting a coding standard that is aligned with the common PHP best practices of other large organizations. This also leads to a large amount of code cleanup and refactoring to optimize SQL queries and prune other wasteful practices.

The staff are generally very helpful and accommodating, but beware of the commuters. If you are traveling in to the city please be respectful of the regular commuters and order quickly. Remember these people are on their way to work and your dilly dallying could make them late. Also remember to follow the queue signs and don't mill about in front of the register. If you are a regular the staff will have your order ready the moment they see you on the line. They may not know your name but they know how you take your coffee and that is something special.

The crew at the Coast Guard Station were more than accommodating during the recent open house. The Aids to Navigation Team demonstrated how they link buoy chains together with a heat & beat shackle. It was nice to see one of our countries most important services in action. The station itself was well maintained and the tour of the small boats was exciting for all.

If you need to get to North Eastern CT in a hurry then this is the best way to get there. It definitely is less stressful than driving all the around the sound. The staff at the NY side of the ferry terminal are generally well mannered and helpful. You should definitely plane ahead allotting yourself extra time for the long single lane drive out to Orient Point.

Sal and the gang at Pizza Corner have been offering great Italian food for over ten years. They have some great specialty slices like the Sargento which is a great summery vegetarian pizza. Equally fantastic if you can get it is their Eggplant Parmesan slice. A family favorite is the 3 parmesan heros special. Finally Pizza Corner is great for catering your parties.
