This is not good news.  Prior to this announcement Dart stood out as something different something with the potential to fundamentally do something different on the web.  Now it can simply be lumped in with all the other dime a dozen compile to javascript languages out there.  Any hope of me using Dart in the future is now dashed.
We work with many teams, inside and outside of Google, that use Dart every day to build business-critical apps. Their feedback is consistent: they love working with the Dart language, libraries, and tools, and they compile Da...

The true bottomless pit is a hole dug all the way through the center of the earth.  Learn about what that would be like, if it were possible, with this article.
What would happen if you dove into a hole straight through the Earth?

This concept has implications for platform teams.  What should be made a shared library and what shouldn't in the context of micro services?

My project would be worthless if you couldn't share library code among microservices :-)

A nice high level overview of Martin Fowler's "Sacrificial Architecture" concept.

A good update on the status of Nashorn and Avatar.js (node apis implemented for nashorn).

Here is a bullet point summary:
* Nashorn replaces Rhino
* Nashorn warm is still a little slower than V8
* Avatar.js aims to implement node APIs in java.
* Avatar.js works with many node modules out of the box including express and grunt. (https://avatar-js.java.net/)
* Project Avatar (not to be confused with avatar.js) is attempting to integrate Node, Java and JEE.  Not very interesting to me.

Thanks guys, although it has been an interesting discussion for me.  I think I'm going to stop commenting on the thread.

+Tommy Knowlton next time we go out for lunch I want to pick your brain further on Libertarian ideals around areas of the government I haven't thought about much.  Like the FCC, FTC, and SEC in general.  I'm curious. :)

An old but interesting InfoQ article on the potential of a universal bytecode for the web.  Still an interesting read 2 years later now that it appears asm.js has won.  Can asm.js be a stepping stone towards freeing the web from language lockin?

+Daniel Sellers  I can't resist tagging you here.

I LOL'd while reading this from the article:

"And that’s not because JavaScript is such a brilliant language, but because it’s so hard to bring major players together to work on a better solution and to switch all the gears of the software industry"

HAL looks like a nice media type.

HAL is a weak example of almost achieving the hypermedia constraint. HAL relies on human-readable documentation for custom link relations, instead of expressing the link relation semantics in the media type definition.
