If SSH is the Swiss Army knife of the system administration world, Nmap is a box of dynamite. It's really easy to misuse dynamite and blow your foot off, but it's also a very powerful tool that can do jobs that are impossible without it. When most people think of Nmap, they think of scanning servers, looking for open ports to attack.

Have you wondered how Minecraft can produce massive worlds that are still chock-full of little details, like elaborate cliff faces and waterfalls? PBS' G

Samsung and Apple are no strangers to the courtroom. They are both often found in one, fighting claims from others or trying to establish cases against oth

Yeah, I like the claim of irreparable harm for patents they are licensing. In so claiming, Apple is saying that they wouldn't license the patents to Samsung for any price, since otherwise any harm would be fixed by writing a check after the fact.

The Runcible is both the strangest and most intriguing device that I've seen at Mobile World Congress this year. It offers many of the same capabilities

Regardless of your personal opinion of Curt Schilling, that was solid. More people should follow his lead where this is concerned.
Former Phillies pitcher Curt Schilling took to his blog this week to identify two New Jersey men as the people who made sexually-explicit comments on Twitter about the baseball player's daughter, Gabby Schilling.

ChaletOS began as a personal project of developer Dejan Petrovic. This operating system has a familiar Windows-like style, with appealing simplicity and impressive speed. Much of that performance credit goes to the use of the Xfce desktop. The system controls are tweaked to bring unique style-changing capabilities to a classic Linux desktop environment.

We're still waiting for Kev to tell us what he really thinks.

APPLE ARE HORRIBLE MONEY GRABBING TWATS!!!!

I'm working with an app developer to get an app into the App Store and Google Play for one of my web sites. I go to set up an Apple Developer account, only to find that I have to pay $99 a year for the pleasure of having my app in the app store!

Not only that, iWank users can't install apps from external sources. I'm not an iMong, so I didn't know this before. Talk about a walled garden - Apple literally try to squeeze every last penny out of it's oh so loyal followers. iSheep are fucking idiots!

Unfortunately though, I have to be an iSheep as well, if I want my app in the App Store.

When it comes to Google, they're not much better. However that's just a one off $25 fee. Honestly, like these companies aren't making enough from us consumers!

I almost don't want to release the iOS app now. But I would be letting a lot of my users down if I don't. Apple, you're all cunts.

The most frustrating time waiting for a package is when it's "Out for delivery". That part takes forever it seems.

Sounds useful. Maybe a sunny window will suffice. I hope they pull it off.

Very cool.
Summary:With the new Linux 4.0 kernel, you'll need to reboot Linux less often than ever.

Introduction
I currently develop server side software for a large pharmaceutical company. My department specializes in Reporting using a web portal and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. My personal role is Server Automation. I came to this job after working in IT for 8 years. Before that I worked as a software developer for 3 years, and before that I worked in IT for 5 years. I have a hard time making up my mind.

I started using Linux personally in the late 90s, and have loved it ever since. I am the owner and creator of Linux Rants. I’m also active in the forums of many technology sites where I can often be found picking a fight. When I’m not online, I’m spending time with my family.
