Blog Posting Mantra - Revisited

Several years ago (2006), I would coach business owners and leaders how to "blog" and we used a 7-step mantra. Some of the steps have changed or been re-ordered, though as I continue to coach on occasion, the mantra still is very useful
In 2006, we created a 7-step mantra for business owners to help them in writing blog posts. We've modified the list (now at eight steps) to cover changes.

Record Your SCAMPER with Glass

Watch how Roy Choi modifies a recipe, recording the process (and then sharing it).

Love it!
Meet Roy Choi. He’s a Glass Explorer, co-founder of Kogi BBQ, and the world famous chef behind the gourmet food truck movement. Step into the kitchen with Roy as he puts a new spin on Irish cooking for St. Patrick’s day. Warning: You may will be hungry after watching this film.

Drooling yet? Well, the Kogi truck will be serving the limited edition East Los Leprechaun Burrito in Los Angeles next week. You can keep tabs on the truck’s schedule at:

Don't Just Be an Artist, Be an Enterprise

Introvert? Prefer to hone your craft in your trusty old chair? Cool. Own your platform - and build it from your trusty old chair.  Or continue to try to go through the crusty old gatekeeper systems.

Working in a Mom & Pop Family Business

Two of my earliest jobs were in Mom & Pops.

A small Italian restaurant where Mom cooked, Pop prepped, and their oldest son ran the dining room. Food fights were not uncommon (and they weren't fun, either)

My parents had their own real estate business and I began helping them do bookeeping as I studied for my own license. I saw the beginnings of the ending of my parent's marriage during those days.

It's both rewarding and difficult to work in a family business. And maybe it's one of the reasons I so enjoy and desire to help these types of operations most.

To salute Mom and Pop Business Owner's Day ( , here's a great video with sound advice for the Family-owned and Mom-n-Pop operations:

BuzzSumo - A Find Engine for Content, Influencers, Keywords, and Social

BuzzSumo has become a go-to for me, whether looking for content, a best place to share, looking for certain influencers or doing research on a topic.

Each of its features offer a combination of doing search that offer insight

- into what’s being said (or not) about your business or of your competition,
- what your intended audience is talking about and sharing,
- who are the most influential resources on a particular topic or platform
- what topics you can share, so you can be the resource

The newest feature, Save a Search, makes it easy to stay on top of trending topics.

WOW! These folks make everyone they greet each morning feel welcome and at home, greeting with a smile and using their first name. Fantastic energy and enthusiasm! I've only been coming to this location a short time (former Panera "home" at 6740 University in W Des Moines, IA, aka "Panera U"), yet they allow me to feel like I've been coming for years. Big thanks to Jill for leading the welcoming spirit! It's good to be home at Panera.
