One of our more popular articles is the Hypoallergenic Dog Foods list. Allergy signs can include skin rash, hives, itching, paw biting, obsessive licking -- and sometimes nausea or vomiting. http://buff.ly/2hJvR8Y Even though food allergies only account for about 10% of allergy symptoms in dogs, it's worth a try at ruling out food allergies. If your dog has had an issue with allergies, what helped?

A class action lawsuit filed in California claims that a variety of large companies have conspired to falsely promote prescription pet food. The plaintiffs claim that the “prescription” pet food manufactured by Mars, Purina, and Hill’s and sold at stores like Banfield Pet Hospital and PetSmart is not evaluated by the FDA and contain no drugs or other legally controlled substances. http://buff.ly/2h0CB2H Do you think consumers are "tricked" into thinking prescription dog food is equivalent to prescription medicine? How do you feel about this?

What are animal by-products? This innocent-sounding ingredient is commonly made up of out of date grocery store meats, livestock frames, animal intestines and a variety of ingredients that are legally "unfit for human consumption". While some pet food companies claim that by-products are nutritious and high protein, they are also cheaper than any comparable meat product. We red-flag by-products in our reviews. What dog food protein do you prefer in your dog's food?

Dog Lovers - You may have noticed new products by Purina appearing in pet stores over the last few weeks. Purina Beyond includes three new lines: Adventure, Simply 9 and Superfood Blend. Each product's estimated meat content and ingredient list was compared to other available dry dog foods and given its own star rating -- ranging from average to slightly above average. See the reviews on my A to Z list of dog food brands: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/brand/ What are your thoughts on the new Purina Beyond lines?

Banned by the FDA in over-the-counter supplements -- but OK for dog food? Menadione is synthetic vitamin K. And it's included in many dog food recipes. http://buff.ly/2gPNNKS Since there is controversy and the possibility of negative effects, we red flag this ingredient in our reviews. How do you feel about menadione or any other controversial ingredients when you're shopping for your dog?
Some call menadione a nutritional necessity. Others say it's a dangerous toxin. Discover the truth about the use of menadione in commercial dog food.

Here's an interesting article that talks a little bit about dog food manufacturing "behind the scenes" at Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, which manufactures Rachael Ray's pet food lines. The operations manager for the plant says, "As a rule, the food must not only meet animal standards but also be safe for human consumption." http://buff.ly/2gmO0ES Which pet food brand do you trust the most? And why?
Amid the whir of conveyor belts and machinery comes a loud, rhythmic slap, as one after another, a worker takes a stack of empty dog food bags and smacks each one on a metal surface to make sure the top is open. Then, a robotic arm takes a single empty bag from the top of the stack and sets it in motion to be filled with kibble. Filled bags are marked with a “best by” date and tracking information, and then scanned by a metal detector — one of mu...

Dog Lovers - In a disturbing story, an Orlando news service reports that 97 Greyhound racing dogs were sickened and 2 died after eating food that the Florida Dept. of Agriculture suspects was contaminated with E. coli. The food was a mixture of low quality raw beef, Purina Dog Chow and Pedigree Adult Dog Food. I know plenty of our readers feed raw dog food. What are your best tips for ensuring that your dogs and household are not exposed to harmful bacteria? http://www.clickorlando.com/news/food-poisoning-cited-in-greyhound-deaths-at-daytona-beach-dog-track/27349450
Health officials suspect food poisoning in the deaths of two greyhounds and the illnesses of 97 others in Daytona Beach.
