Chrome custom tabs: smoothing the transition between apps and the web

Android app developers face a difficult tradeoff when it comes to showing web content in their Android app. Opening links in the browser is familiar for users and easy to implement, but results in a heavy-weight transition between the app and the web.

You can get more granular control by building a custom browsing experience on top of Android’s WebView, but at the cost of more technical complexity and an unfamiliar browsing experience for users. A new feature in the most recent version of Chrome called custom tabs addresses this tradeoff by allowing an app to customize how Chrome looks and feels, making the transition from app to web content fast and seamless. Learn more in our latest blog post.

Really digging these improvements to the pre-nav UI. Not only does it show time estimates for all methods at the same time, but it's now using the real live map you can scroll around and the 3 route options are now right on the map.

So much better. Good job, +Google Maps team!

Not sure. The whole connection between Maps, Maps Views, Streetview and public photos is a bit of a mess to be honest.

The food was fantastic and the location is brilliant, right on the beach and underneath the promenade. It has a nice atmosphere and is not too expensive if you make use of the group offers available. Really would have been a candidate for 5 stars but they forgot about my request for a gluten free meal (which equated to removing the sauce), remembered at the last minute and re-cooked my meal as the rest of my table finished theirs. Ended up being a bit of a mess really but they were very apologetic and the meal really was lovely - if a little late - so I don't have the heart to downgrade it to 3 stars. I do still recommend it though. All things considered it was a nice evening out.

Lovely quiet little cottage house within easy reach of Oswestry, Shrewsbury and North Wales. The owners are very friendly and always eager to please, and the room was absolutely pristine with a charm all of its own. The food was also really good and (although I didn't take them up on it) there are also some fine classic cars that you can hire out to take a trip in... Brilliant! A very pleasant experience all round and I will definitely be going back again soon - highly recommend!

The restaurant was fully booked when we arrived but the staff were really helpful and found us a table within 20 minutes. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was good. There was no specifically gluten free meals listed but all the usual foods types were available and the steak was nicely cooked. The bar and terrace area is great and does a large selection of speciality Gin & Tonics, as well as all the usual suspects. It did get a quite slow when it was busy but the staff were always polite and helpful. Great experience all round and I will definitely go again when I am back in the city.

Nice friendly staff, tasty coffee/tea and the cakes were lovely (gluten free Brownies always go down well!). Quite expensive but worth it for the pleasant calming experience. Recommended.

Nice lunch atmosphere and the staff were great. The meal itself was nice and we were not kept waiting. They have a dedicated gluten free menu (in multiple languages) which was very helpful and quite comprehensive. - even the gluten free rolls were lovely and soft! Great views, gluten free menu and reasonably priced - recommended! I will be going again when I am back in the city.

Nicely located in a quiet area but just a 10 minute walk from the square and <5 minutes to the nearest Metro station. The staff were very friendly and the room was well presented and comfortable. It maybe could have done with a desk to work on but for the price this would have been an added bonus. Did the job perfectly. Would stay here again.

Nice little hotel just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be quiet, but close enough for a pleasant walk back. The room was well presented and the staff helpful. However there is not enough on-site parking for the amount of rooms available, so be prepared to park on the street or pay and display. At the weekend (or on a bank holiday) this was free but worth keeping in mind because they do not make this clear before hand. Overall I think the Hilton Garden Inn is great for a cheap weekend away and would recommend it.
