This is huge! Devs can finally create promotional codes for paid apps and IAPs.

A few caveats:
- a dev can create up to 500 codes per quarter (for comparison, iOS devs can create up to 100 codes, but per release, which I think is better)
- promo codes expire after up to a year. Here's where it's ambiguous right now, and we've requested clarification from Google. Does it mean promo codes are valid for a year but if you redeem, they'll apply forever, or does it mean a code will only give you a max 1 year license? I hope the former.

Regardless, this is going to make review versions of apps/games much easier. And if it works forever, then for giveaways too. Nobody wants to win a giveaway license that's only valid for year, that would suck.

Edit: +Ian Lake clarified that once redeemed, the licenses don't expire! Yay! https://plus.google.com/u/0/+IanLake/posts/ebTKFsT5Zqe
For years, many of us have been bemoaning the lack of promo codes for Android apps. On the other side of the fence, iOS has had this feature forever.... by Ryan Whitwam in Applications, Games, News

Ermmm...
A US town has rejected a proposal for a solar farm following public concerns. Members of the public in Woodland, North Carolina, expressed their fear and mistrust at the proposal to allow Strata Solar Company to build a solar farm off Highway 258.

Not just turning that one down but also a moratorium on future solar farms too. I despair!!!

Google I/O 2016 dates announced! And it's no longer in SF but rather in Mountain View, closer to Google's campus.

But wait... Shoreline Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue... http://www.theshorelineamphitheatre.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/shoreline-amphitheatre-outside.jpg

Wat?

WTF is this about?! The US officials change their mind just before take off and won't refund £9000 in flights. I'd be absolutely livid!

Red Dwarf XI in In The Can
Friday night saw the recording of the final episode of Red Dwarf XI. I am quietly confident that this new series takes the Red Dwarf phenomenon to the next level.
Not only does it look amazing, the scripts are brilliant, complex and incredibly imaginative.
We have all worked very hard, we are all knackered and we now have a month off before we start again.
Series XII starts shooting mid January. Both series will be broadcast in the UK on Dave sometime in 2016-17. Don't know dates yet
Picture is from long ago, under very strict instructions not to post pics from new series

Happy Christmas and a peaceful 2016

Unfortunately I've got to say I agree. I really hope this trailer is not a sign of the final tone of the film...
The trailer, reviewed: It has a lot of punching, precious little "science fiction."

The food was fantastic and the location is brilliant, right on the beach and underneath the promenade. It has a nice atmosphere and is not too expensive if you make use of the group offers available. Really would have been a candidate for 5 stars but they forgot about my request for a gluten free meal (which equated to removing the sauce), remembered at the last minute and re-cooked my meal as the rest of my table finished theirs. Ended up being a bit of a mess really but they were very apologetic and the meal really was lovely - if a little late - so I don't have the heart to downgrade it to 3 stars. I do still recommend it though. All things considered it was a nice evening out.

Lovely quiet little cottage house within easy reach of Oswestry, Shrewsbury and North Wales. The owners are very friendly and always eager to please, and the room was absolutely pristine with a charm all of its own. The food was also really good and (although I didn't take them up on it) there are also some fine classic cars that you can hire out to take a trip in... Brilliant! A very pleasant experience all round and I will definitely be going back again soon - highly recommend!

The restaurant was fully booked when we arrived but the staff were really helpful and found us a table within 20 minutes. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was good. There was no specifically gluten free meals listed but all the usual foods types were available and the steak was nicely cooked. The bar and terrace area is great and does a large selection of speciality Gin & Tonics, as well as all the usual suspects. It did get a quite slow when it was busy but the staff were always polite and helpful. Great experience all round and I will definitely go again when I am back in the city.

Nice friendly staff, tasty coffee/tea and the cakes were lovely (gluten free Brownies always go down well!). Quite expensive but worth it for the pleasant calming experience. Recommended.

Nice lunch atmosphere and the staff were great. The meal itself was nice and we were not kept waiting. They have a dedicated gluten free menu (in multiple languages) which was very helpful and quite comprehensive. - even the gluten free rolls were lovely and soft! Great views, gluten free menu and reasonably priced - recommended! I will be going again when I am back in the city.

Nicely located in a quiet area but just a 10 minute walk from the square and <5 minutes to the nearest Metro station. The staff were very friendly and the room was well presented and comfortable. It maybe could have done with a desk to work on but for the price this would have been an added bonus. Did the job perfectly. Would stay here again.

Nice little hotel just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be quiet, but close enough for a pleasant walk back. The room was well presented and the staff helpful. However there is not enough on-site parking for the amount of rooms available, so be prepared to park on the street or pay and display. At the weekend (or on a bank holiday) this was free but worth keeping in mind because they do not make this clear before hand. Overall I think the Hilton Garden Inn is great for a cheap weekend away and would recommend it.
