Look what Google Goggles just did when I was trying to share a #welfie  (a Wearable selfie) - it recognised the location of a tiny part of the photo. Very cool.

Hopefully, Google will also notify the fashion police regarding that shirt you are wearing.

On the Edge of extinction

Checking click-through stats from my College students it quite illuminating. Internet Explorer / Edge do not feature high enough to even register. I never thought I would see the day.

Indonesian Poo Coffee

Would you drink this Indonesian delicacy where the coffee beans have passed through the digestive system of an indigenous cat-like creature - the Paradoxurus (also called the Luwak)?

I just had a cup and lived to tell the tale - so far anyway. As far as the coffee itself goes, I don't think it is worth the risk, really.

I would have gotten away with it if is wasn't for those pesky kids forensic scientists

If you are planning a murder soon then you had best listen to the pitfalls listed here. Be warned: it might put you off carrying out your plans as those pesky forensic scientists will know. Particularly avoid disposal of the body near:

- wood chippers
- the edges of fields
- suitcases
- brambles and nettles (I think)

Thanks +Ed Carter

Is there a pig on your roof?

If you live in London the answer is quite possibly yes. And it might be in a suitcase. Maybe wearing dungarees.
A Forensic look at ForensicsNo dead strawberries this week, but plenty of dead bodies, as Brian Cox and Robin Ince take a gruesome look at the science of death and some of the more unusual ways that forensic scientists are able to look for and gather clues and evidence. From insects that can be used to give a precise time of death, to the unusual field of forensic botany, It's not just DNA evidence that can be used to pinpoint someone to the scen...

“There won’t be an on-off switch,” he added. “If I’m not in a Wi-Fi hotspot or I switch off my home modem, then perhaps I’ll be offline. But the idea is to try and keep the ear online all the time.”

Nice.

The Religious Freedom sometimes has a price.

Thanks +Gorgor Gor

It's a $44,000.00 civic lesson Texas taxpayers will ultimately pay.
A gay Texas couple wins their lawsuit against the clerk who refused to issue a marriage license to them.

The law is the law. Just because what your religion may tell you, the law is the law.  And if you're paid to uphold it, do your damn job or quit.

If you don't approve of gay marriage, don't fucking have one.

If you don't approve of abortion, don't fucking have one.

Not so long ago, we'd have been having this discussion because some redneck asshole refused to issue a marriage licence for a mixed race couple.  In twenty years, the only people still bothered by this will be the same ignorant bigoted fuckwits who still think "mixed marriages" are a problem.

Go thump your books and get the hell out of other people's lives.

Very interesting - an odd exception. I would not want to be in charge of adding that exception into the software.

Interesting read and in short a bicycle and DOS a Google car :).   A bike track-stand is basic case of balancing on the spot with no feet upon the ground and something we have all done on a bicycle one time or another.

Still nice that the bias in judgement was caution and the cyclist involved said he felt safer than if a human had been at the wheel and with that, whilst a flaw, one that aired on the side of caution and safety.

So a great lesson in not only how to handle exceptions but doing so safely in software.  Always exceptions to every rule, even this rule :).
An awkward encounter with a cyclist highlights the technology’s tough road ahead.

Want to see analytics on photos you have shared?

Here is a neat trick where you can see analytics on Google Photos you have shared simply by adding a + at the end of the sharing URL.

[TIP] - Analytics of your shared Photos links

Here is a nice tip that came from Joshua Talley in the Google Photos forum, if you want to view the analytics of a shared link just add a + to the end of the url

ie: https://goo.gl/photos/v72YPQtVP9JV7hKc7

would become:

https://goo.gl/photos/v72YPQtVP9JV7hKc7+

Are Cannon quietly dropping Google Cloud Print?

Compare this:

http://www.canon.co.uk/printers/inkjet/pixma/pixma_mg4250/

With this in the web cache:

http://web.archive.org/web/20150317193531/http://www.canon.co.uk/printers/inkjet/pixma/pixma_mg4250/

...and play spot the difference, lol
With Wi-Fi and AirPrint support you can print from smartphones, tablets and Apple devices. ...
