Sharing this so that I can remember to look at it later ;-)
After more than eight years, I've decided to close up my shop on Etsy. Lately I've just had more negative things to say about the service than positive, and I figured it was time to put my money wh...

Winter Commuting  -

Interesting site for early morning commuters -- based on your location and starting time, tells you how much longer your commute will be in the dark.
Ever wonder how much longer you'll be commuting in the dark?

Three more months of dark mornings here... I don't mind having to use a light, but I wish it was warmer!

New show on the Science Channel -- All-American Makers.
"...will feature four amateur inventors each week, eager for an opportunity to take their product to market. Judged by two master makers, Brook Drumm and Brian Roe, and business magnate Marc Portney, each inventor’s product is shown to consumers, broken down and examined to test their mettle and ultimate marketability."

Kinda long, but interesting article on cycling helmets, touching on engineering, concussions, standards, history, testing, marketing, woodpeckers, legal issues... I've been biking to work a lot lately, I think it's time for a new helment.
Bicycling magazine provides a special online version of Senseless, an in-depth look at the state of bicycling helmet technology.

Mike, I've been competing in triathlon and cycling events since 1997. It is a penalty to be on your bike without your helmet on and the strap buckled even if you are walking beside it. I've had some crashes too. One race it wasn't until I was packing up my equipment at the end that I realized my helmet was cracked completely through. I had crashed in mile 3 of the 56 mile bike portion of the Half Ironman. I never ride without a helmet whether it is racing, training or tooling around the neighborhood.
I often see parents riding with the children. They make the children wear helmets yet don't wear one themselves. I see this as dangerous for two reasons. The parents' heads are just as vulnerable as the kids. And it sends the message to the kids that once you are an adult you don't have to wear a helmet.
Thanks for posting this and congrats on commuting on your bike. It is healthy for you and the planet.
