He is survived by his wife and children who are in our thoughts as we respect their wish for privacy at this incredibly difficult time. In view of this we would request that the wider community does not yet post to his G+ (and other media) to avoid bringing a further burden to his family.
We will pass on more information when it becomes available and will try to organise something that commemorates this remarkable man.
Aaron was the mastermind behind some big Resistance operations - most notably for when he covered Denmark for Hardrada (https://plus.google.com/+AaronKearney/posts/M4oXrX6VpCY) and for his drive in completing the Ireland coverage for Unite16 (https://plus.google.com/+AaronKearney/posts/WJraz3wyoaX).
Even though he was a true blue part of the Resistance he was highly regarded by all the Enlightened players that knew him.
He will be sorely missed by all his family, friends and the Ingress Community - the world around us is a little less bright for his passing but a much better place than it was before we knew him.
I've had a fantastic time since I started playing Ingress in January 2013. It's taken me many places and I've met many people on both Resistance and Enlightened factions.
I've been involved in some aspect with many of the large scale operations for Resistance in Britain, from helping make the first field to link England, Wales and Northern Ireland, through to helping link the 3 highest peaks in Britain for Operation Dynamo.
Sept 7 2013 was the evening we ran Cover The UK (CTUK), covering a large part of the UK under 6 layers of Resistance control fields. Later that evening was the Enlightened operation Redemption where they covered a large part of Western Europe under green control fields.
The decision was made to run CTUK again a few months later, but to multiply the layers to the maximum. Event Horizon was run in the early hours of 26 Jan 2014 and covered UK in 18 layers of blue control fields and 7 over Ireland. The total MU gain was 647 million, and accounted a large proportion of the total global MU score.
I came up with concept for Lest We Forget which was large scale, cross faction artwork over the entire length of Great Britain. Against incredible odds and involving hundred of participants from both sides, the combined Ingress players of Britain rolled the Union Jack over England and Wales and a poppy over Scotland on 9 Nov 2014, Remembrance Sunday.
I've helped coach upcoming Resistance field creators, consulted on a number of fielding plans and assisted with improving communication between regions and countries. I've been in retirement from active play in Ingress since December 2014, only stepping out to help Resistance in my local area for Cardiff Anomaly, and for Shard #12 last weekend.
All things come to an end, and my time with Ingress has come to an end.
I put in my delete request tonight.
Thank you to everyone who I've been in touch with over the last 2 years with this game. There are many very skilled and capable people within Resistance UK and it's been a privilege to play alongside you all.
