How to Make a Story Part 4 - Putting it all together - A 360 degree photo need not be from real life, but made as a collage. Here's what I did ..

Being Creative with Google Labs & Friends A Story Sphere need not be a real photo as such, instead create a collage of your favourite clips then illustrate with some audio. I've picked four from Google Creative Labs: Chrome Racer, Hangouts in History, Out the Front with Tom Uglow and The Cube

Story Spheres - Edgartown Lighthouse

Photospheres are incredibly nifty. Now add the ability to create audio that plays either based on a user action, or in varying volume depending on where in the sphere you're looking... and you have the awesomeness of Story Spheres.

This was my first try - took 15 minutes once I found the audio that would sorta kinda go with the narrative I was trying to tell in the picture. Lots of potential here.

Still some bugs in the system - it was tantalizingly suggesting that there was a way to link Story Spheres, which made me think about navigating between rooms... but I couldn't figure out what it actually did.

I blame +Mike Downes for making me spend time on this awesome discovery when I should be getting ready to leave for I/O and +Grumpy Sailor Creative and +Google Creative Sandbox for their work on this project.

Go try it out!
A storysphere of the Edgartown Lighthouse, with inauthentic discoverable audio.

The Story Sphere Test Card
https://www.storyspheres.com/scene/aPtV3VVr
This image and audio the three audio files are designed to help make creative decisions easier. There 20 squares wide and 10 squares top to bottom. The objective: to know how the centre of a story sphere will show almost 1:1 square proportions - where at the top and bottom it's expected to be distorted. The next step is to design a photosphere that fulfils your requirement and looks & sounds wonderful (like photos on a wall).

With equirectangular projection there's no distortion in the viewed image.

I'd like to see an option to change the default zoom of the view. Currently
it's too zoomed in for my liking. With some extra tweaks and options the
concept can go a long long way. Setting an auto rotate and play order would
work well. Hopefully well see this evolve into a fantastic story telling
medium.

The Willow Tree If you were a willow tree, what would you hear as the day passes by? Explore the area around you and listen - what's making that sound? This story sphere is suitable for all ages - but especially those young minds with a mobile phone ..

Current practice is more "struggle to orient, fumble through flipped axis, then wait for the payoff for which you've struggled so long. In a VR headset it might make more sense, but in the context of my desktop, it does not work well.

On planning and developing a Story Sphere, it's worth seeing a similar experience, this one made in April 2014. For story boarders, it's worth making a few objectives like an overall purpose and focus for the experience. For Marseille, that's the sounds, streets and soul of the city

+Kevin McLaughlin on mobile!? good one, i have not got that far. Yes fiddle, but worth it? Beat writing some paper lesson plan. That said, I am getting to the point in making each one fun and expecting the viewer to dig around and find something out .. The #epicwin  - fact we are doing it ourselves and for free -- not relying on industrial tech and a wait of 6 weeks .. Please link me what you make . :)

Fantastic new update to 360 views from Google. We can now add directional sound or commentary to 360 views and scenes. Works really well in Google Cardboard too. Lots of exciting possibilities.

How to Make a Story Sphere Part 1 It's the first video behind the scenes of the creative process and what goes into making a Story Sphere. note these are my ideas based on what I've deducted - not those given to me by Google Creative or Grumpy Sailor.

So, as you see I'm learning all the time and will update this video as and when required. Making a Story Sphere requires you have a knowledge of making a #photosphere (something I've made many posts and videos on already).

Please, please have some fun with this and feedback to me what you find out..

Be careful with online prices (at Tesco Direct) compare to instore prices on larger items ie a TV. We had issues which ended up with a price haggle, thankfully Duty Manager agreed with us in the end, and gave us the Online Price.

On passing by the yard, I was totally impressed by the display of freshly cut timber posts. The smell was excellent too. Here are a few photos, I would certainly loot at more uses to these posts, sure as a fence, but from what I've seen they deserve to be hung on the wall as an art exhibit :)

Benefit have moved to a brand new Head Office in the Marconi Building (former New Street Works), I've attached a comp slip with the new address. It was lovely to see some of the radio memorabilia on display - so important as from 1912 this was the first ever purpose built radio factory. Visitors to Benefit Cosmetics should be aware 'Marconi Building' is also another the name of one of the local Anglia Ruskin University faculties, so make sure you arrive at New Street :)
