Great discussion of the Agile Manifesto and how to use the value statements to make decisions by +Tim Ottinger
What the heck does that mean? It's a simple statement of personal preferences, right?   "I like bananas more than lemons." "I think today I'd rather have tamales than gyros." What power could there possibly be in stating that...

Some important observations (and easy tips) on meeting people at conferences from +Jeremy Clark  For me, my energy to meet new people ebbs and flows (on personality tests that I've taken, I'm usually in the middle between introvert and extrovert) but I'm usually determined to make the most of the time that I have at a conference to continue to meet new people! You never know what you're going to learn from who or what connection you'll make that will open up a world of opportunities in the future!
I've been thinking quite a bit about being a social developer, particularly because I talked to Richard Campbell and Carl Franklin about it recently on .NET Rocks! (look for the show to be published next week). Because of thi...

I have a hard time doing this but I've gotten better at it. This phrase does resonate with me though: "developers like to talk, but they don't like to start the conversation".

I like the triangle idea too, will have to try it.

Any software developer friends out there willing to chime in?

Hoping you guys can help me out a little bit.  What qualities do you look for in an entry level programmer? What methods do you use to determine if the candidate has those qualities?

BTW, these questions are good for any level, not only entry people.

Rana el Kaliouby: This app knows how you feel -- from the look on your face #TED : http://on.ted.com/g13D0
Our emotions influence every aspect of our lives — how we learn, how we communicate, how we make decisions. Yet they’re absent from our digital lives; the devices and apps we interact with have no way of knowing how we feel. Scientist Rana el Kaliouby aims to change that. She demos a powerful new technology that reads your facial expressions and matches them to corresponding emotions. This “emotion engine” has big implications, she says, and coul...

Some great sketchnotes of #Agile2015
[This post is one of many sparked by Agile 2015.] Note taking helps me to stay focused on a presentation or meeting. I used to produce loads of  densely scribbled sheets that I never looked at again, because I couldn't find the pertinent points anyway. For Agile 2015 I decided to go the extra mile and sketchnote: to add icons and arrange all information visually. This way I can tell one not ...

I would add that you want real world stories and experiences... Behavioral Interviews if conducted well will give you a lot of great information and save time. If you have a candidate who (and this happens with many senior candidates) gives great answers but they really don't open up and share or worse really answer your questions, this is usually a red flag. It may not be a show stopper, but you'll need to really listen to your intuition and trust your instincts.

And +1 Michael's tips :-)
