I'm not into popularity contests, but I love talking about work that matters.
I seemed to pop up all over the place this week: at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; in online government press; and at Christopher Newport University.

Another 18F blog post! This one outlines our onboarding process, ever a work-in-progress.
As the 18F team expands to meet federal digital needs, we've learned to appreciate documentation for its ability to turn new hires into self-sufficient contributors quickly, with minimal disruption to the organization.

Would-be Plan 9 fans: hope this helps.
I've finally gotten Plan 9 and its rio windowing system running successfully under VMware Fusion 7.1.1 on OS X 10.10.3 and feel like shouting about it.

A small FedScoop piece covering 18F Guides.
18F, the digital services team based in the General Services Administration, has launched an open repository of best practices gathered from its project teams.

In which I describe my own Frankenstein's monster.
I delivered a talk to the Arlington Ruby Meetup describing my work on the Jekyll-based 18F Hub and 18F Pages web sites.

I've been busy.
A number of initiatives that I've started within 18F have been taking off, with more to come.

Great piece, I am most heartened to read that you're having the time of your life.  Loving your job is a good practice itself, and over the long haul, one of the most important.

Seems our 18F Content Guide got the attention of gov tech writers. Yours truly was interviewed for an insightful Fusion article about the power and necessity of good documentation.
Earlier this year, Fusion’s director of engineering Daniel Bachhuber pinged our #tech channel in Slack: I knew where Daniel was going with this.

Made good on my promise to build and test bitly/oauth2_proxy on Plan 9 sooner than expected!
After a bit of hunting and poking around, I got my Plan 9 virtual machine on the net, installed the Go programming language, and made good on a promise.

I get to serve my country, contribute to the open source ecosystem, and hack Go? Livin' the dream!
We love when we're able to contribure to open source projects from other organizations. Recently, we contributed to Bitly's open source google_auth_proxy to support our Hub and MyUSA applications, and our contribution has already helped other OAuth2 providers.

First step down a long road. Companions welcome.
While there's no substitute for personal instruction and mentorship, that effort scales far more effectively when there are clear, concise materials to introduce the basics. 18F Guides aims to fill that role for our young and growing team, and we hope it may be of use to others as well.

Documentation? I must go on the record as being in favor of it.

A cute little bureaucracy hack Noah and I pulled off recently.
GitHub Pages is a good way to build static websites using Jekyll. When we, at 18F, increasingly found ourselves putting canonical content on GitHub Pages, we hacked a solution by creating 18F Pages.

I really wish they let me keep the hat.
The White House just launched its U.S. Digital Service recruiting website, in which I play a small but proud role.
