I have finally decided to finish some blog posts that remained half baked for some time. The posts are about programming in general, bioinformatics (Ensembl, ...) and data visualization (D3.js, ...). Here is the first one about ordering goroutines in Go.
Comments welcome.
One of Go's greatest features is its built-in support for concurrency. It allows to easily express concurrency algorithms without needing third party libraries or similar solutions as in other programming languages. This feat...

After using C, Perl, Go(lang), OCaml, Haskell, R and Javascript in real coding (at work or in pet projects) I am looking for the next programming language to learn. There are several in my list: Rust, Lua, Python, Haskell (yes, a lot more to learn and suffer!), Dart, Erlang... suggestions?

You (+Miguel Pignatelli +Yves Junqueira ) should all give Dart a try - the native language support is great for you as a developer, as you get a no-compile edit cycle like JavaScript  (plus the Dartium browser hooks into the editor to provide round-trip debugging).  When you're ready to deploy to the rest of the world, that's when you ship to JavaScript.  Take a look at http://www.builtwithdart.com for examples :)

Nice to see that #golang  powers one of my favorite web services: SoundCloud.

SoundCloud is a polyglot company, and while we’ve always operated with Ruby on Rails at the top of our stack, we’ve got quite a wide variety of langu

After being annoyed by random X freezes in my Ubuntu machine for some time, I decided to give LinuxMint a try. After a 10 minutes installation, everything was working great.
Now I can only say... Why did it take me so long to decide to change?

By the way, this bug in Ubuntu has been there for ages and they haven't solved it yet. Sorry Ubuntu guys, but you have lost another one.

Symptoms. X stops responding to input (sometimes mouse cursor can still move, but clicking has no effect); The screen displays but does not update. Sometimes there is screen corruption too, sometimes the screen goes black. Often, X cannot be killed from the console or if it can, it won't restart ...

Bioinformatics is profoundly in debt with Perl. Wish it a happy birthday.

And yes... he got a total freeze! (look how he is pressing the "big button" all the time while he is speaking and had to finally take another device!).
