Exhibition: Magical Escapes
at the Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort

Magical Escapes continues to tour the country, showcasing 16 of my Fine Art Landscape photographs.

This time at the Cascade Wellness & Lifestyle Resort (CWR), with an important singularity: the resort is located within a stone’s throw of my Fiery Morning photograph location (featured in the flyer), at Ponta da Piedade in Lagos (Portugal).

It is a unique setting to see artwork and the real thing in virtually one go ;)

If you are staying at CWR during the period, make sure you see the exhibition. And in addition to the opening you can also meet with me on select days, as I will be present for Meet the Artist sessions as per the flyer schedule (see full screen ;)). Come by and say hi :)

Not staying at the CWR? Don’t miss the chance to get familiar with this 5* resort in the Algarve: www.cascaderesortalgarve.com

It’s a pleasure to associate with the Cascade for this exhibition.

Investing in Art — a fully researched report by Miguel Almeida
To (re-)Share Extensively for Disseminated Knowledge

Do any of you still remember my report on G+ ‘mechanics’ from over a year ago? Well I’m at it again, sharing knowledge for free. This time in a different (much more serious) manner.

I’ve been toying for a while with the idea of starting writing seriously about matters and subjects related to fine art photography. For several reasons, one of which being that I see so much bullshit out there about the subject, that I just can’t sit tight and watch the crowd gobble it. And also because my website concept is trodding along (lurking in the shadows), and when it goes live I do want to populate it with great article content from the get-go (ahem, in addition to a coupl’a snapshots ;)).

So here’s my first foray into the subject.

Ever heard of “Investing in Art”? Sure you have! It’s peddled by a multitude of sources, from investment houses to art intermediaries and some to artists themselves. But, not all is what it seems on this subject.

In this first report, I researched the topic extensively and put together what for me is THE relevant information. Not only what you need to know, but what you MUST know about the subject.
(teaser: it is not what you may think on a first approach ;)))

https://goo.gl/zRV9zLInvesting in Art, by Miguel Almeida

If you are interested in this topic, get the report directly from the above link (read online or download the pdf <— best option) and spread this post and the report so that as many people as possible can get it. It is free as my ‘other’ report had been, and at 4 pages long (albeit densely packed ones), you can read it even if you suffer from ADD (ok, mildly suffer from ADD).

These articles will be few and far between (quality commands low quantity). I am already working on my next article, but it will take some time for its release. Stay tuned for further stuff like this anyway, you’ll never know when it’ll come out ;)

Happy reading.

image credit: I found this quote while roaming the net and found it fitting for this post. It is from a blog called Hanna and Husband, but the blog itself has no relation or relevance to this post and/or the subject matter.

Exhibition: Magical Escapes
at the Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort & Hotel Spa

Wadayaknow, it's that time of the year again: show time! ;)

I'm kicking off my exhibitions this year with a show at the Grande Real Santa Eulália (GRSE), near Albufeira, Algarve (Portugal).

Magical Escapes thus continues to tour the country, showcasing 16 of my Fine Art Landscape photographs. This exhibition at GRSE is fundamentally a private screening from mid-May to mid(ish)-June, for the benefit of resort guests. But you can visit if you are in the area ;) The opening is on Friday May 13th.

If you are staying at GRSE during the period, make sure you see the exhibition. And in addition to the opening you can also meet with me on select days, as I will be present for Meet the Artist sessions as per the flyer schedule (see full screen ;)). Come by and say hi :)

Not staying at GRSE? Don’t miss the chance to get familiar with this 5* resort in the Algarve:
www.granderealsantaeulalia.realhotelsgroup.com

It’s a pleasure to associate with Hotéis Real (the hotelier group the resort belongs to) for this exhibition.

PS: as I am currently outside of the venue area, I was unable to make a photograph of mine of the resort, to use on the flyer (as I usually do). I used one of the resort own gallery, therefore in this case — uncharacteristically — the copyright and responsibility of the flyer photograph are theirs, not mine.

Devil’s Sunrise. (Pine Cliffs Luxury Resort, Portugal)
optimized for lightbox viewing

As mentioned on my previous post, one of my artwork pieces has been a Prize Award in the 2016 Winners Cup event at +Pine Cliffs Resort. Here’s me delivering that prize to the winner, if you missed that post —> https://goo.gl/WjDmEj

One of the most iconic golf holes in Portugal is the legendary Devil’s Parlour, the signature hole #6 of Pine Cliffs in the Algarve. You tee off from where you can see a fence in the background, and you hit the green over the trough between the cliffs (the flag is just off-screen to the left).

Captured in a December dramatic sunrise, Devil's Sunrise captures the magic of playing this magnificent course. Ok, not everyone tees off at that time in the morning, but still… to enjoy the place in all its glory there’s hardly a better moment.

This one is a Private Gem — a unique piece. The Limited Edition concept taken to the extreme ;)

Notes:
i) As with my Catalogue photos, for my “Private Gem” pieces I do not provide tech info or any details regarding image capture and any eventual editing. These are to be seen "as is" and, hopefully, enjoyed as such
ii) My online photos are low resolution, and are edited with that in mind. They may present blemishes (i.e. masking halos, banding, etc) that are non-existent in the actual print file, prepared with complete attention to minute detail and in full size & resolution. They are shown here for representation of the actual print
iii) The images that are commercial in nature are presented online with reduced size (compared to my other images). The max size is limited to 1000px, thus lightbox is the best way to see these

Delivering Devil’s Sunrise. (Pine Cliffs Luxury Resort, Portugal)

On the weekend of 20/21-Feb, the famed luxury resort Pine Cliffs held the 2016 edition of its famed Winners Cup event. Now in its 6th edition, this yearly golf & tenis event is much sought after by everyone “in the know.”

I am much honoured to have been invited to participate in the Event, and to have one of my art pieces feature as one of the prizes to be won during the Gala Dinner, itself a major highlight of the Event. Devil’s Sunrise is an image made inside the resort itself, and is one of my Private Gems (artwork that is one-off, or a Unique Edition).

Here I am delivering the prize to the (very proud, I must say) winner :) If you behave, I may (may) show you Devil’s Sunrise itself on another post ;)

You can see the official video of the Event here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grU5IzX89XQ

And of course, you can get familiar with this most excellent resort:

The Latest Two.

I unveiled my latest two Collection photographs not very long ago. Initially shown to clients only (all my unveilings are performed first for existing clients), it is now time I show them to the world at large.

Bridge Over Troubled Water and Smoke On The Water somewhat break a “tradition” of mine. Usually I feature only a single image from any given location on my Collection. The reasons for this are multiple, and complex. In this case, however, I decided to release two images from the same location (well, ~60m apart really). Partly because I see these as a potential dyptic — that’s how much I love seeing them side by side — even if they are actually individual art pieces themselves.

Any of these two can light up a room — particularly in their exclusive large size incarnation (a.k.a. the Ruby format).

Below, the original release image and information.

Happy Easter everyone!

And stay tuned for coming information on the first exhibition of the year! It’s less than 2 months away ;)

Ancient Royalty. (S.Pedro de Penaferrim, Portugal)
view large to grasp the detail, will you?

And here’s another one of those Antique galleries we find all around S. Pedro, near Sintra. This one (Galeria Real, “Royal Gallery” on a literal translation) is focused on the high end, up market antiques. Others, such as the one I showed on my previous post, are geared more towards the trinket. But don’t let that fool you — one can find great pieces in either of them ;)

If you are of the “antique mindset”, that is. Myself, I’m more on the opposite side when it comes to decoration: ultra-modern, sleek, minimalistic zen… that’ll do it! ;)

The image
As with all my interior photography, I asked for permission to photograph this place. I was graciously granted it and, a few days later, I returned with the tools of the trade. I shot a few takes all around the store — it is both large and full of detail worthy of a few many takes. This view, of the overall center of the store, provides a good measure of its grandiosity.

As usual, applied my personal “brand” of look & feel in order to come up with my artistic take on the scene. Which isn't very different from reality, really... but it is quite different than what a camera is able to capture.

The tech stuff
Canon gear; wide angle lens, tripod.
The rest of the specs really are besides the point for the purpose of this showing; I set aperture, I set shutter speed; I set ISO; that’s all you need to know — I’m sure most of you could care less about what these were anyway

Iques (antiques without the ants). (S.Pedro de Penaferrim, Portugal)
view large to grasp the detail, will you?

Well, friends and foes, I know I’ve been away from here for too long! And, it’ll have to be like that from now on; very busy personally and professionally, for the time being and foreseeable future.

But I’ll continue to drop by whenever possible, and showcase some of my photography. I have a few posts that I can make during the coming days, so I hope you’ll enjoy them.

Kicking off the series, here’s something I’ve been wanting to do for some time: a photograph in one of those Antique shops we all know and love, full of knick knacks. Lots of detail and — let’s face it — a challenge to photograph as to capture it’s beauty without resorting to crass results like “tasteless tone mapping” (aka “sliders to the right”).

The image
As with all my interior photography, I asked for permission to photograph this place. I was graciously granted it and, a few days later, I returned with the tools of the trade. I made some scouting around the shop to find the most visually interesting compositions, and this is one that caught my eye.

Collected a number of frames/brackets (there’s no way the dynamic range of this scene fits into a single shot) but then — as usual — applied my personal “brand” of look & feel in order to come up with my artistic take on the scene. Which isn't very different from reality, really... but it is quite different than what a camera is able to capture.

The tech stuff
Canon gear; wide angle lens, tripod.

Another one for a bite and some dust.

Ok guys, girls and everyone else; you may have seen my previous post (a re-share from Luciano Cruz), where I said I'd make an English post about "the subject". Here it is, although the image is still in Portuguese (doh!).

Another year, another exhibition. Noblesse Oblige.

Kicking the year in with another group exhibition of the 3 Stooges: +Luciano Cruz, +Fabian Stamate and myself are at it again (we never learn!). This time in one of the most prestigious exhibition spaces in the Oeiras Municipality and its surroundings (adda boy!), the Verney Gallery.

Vernissage on Saturday 16/01 at 16:00 (see you all there and bring your wallets stocked — prices are right and all items must go... if you can afford fine art, that is).

You know the drill: tell your friends, tell your enemies, put an add on national television. Just don't keep the information to yourself, that's a national crime around these shores (if it ain't, it oughta be!).

Oh yes, the invitation below is in Portuguese. We're very elitist here, you know... only the best poetic languages are allowed ;)

Cheers & beers!
