Tom Quinn, senior analyst for #MiddleEast upstream at #WoodMackenzie: “While the scale of #discoveries is very large, more information is needed to establish how much of the #resource is commercially recoverable. Core #analysis by [US #oilfield services firm] #Schlumberger suggests the #oil formation could be classified as a borderline ‘conventional-unconventional play’. A tight reservoir means a low recovery factor and only a fraction of the 80+ billion #barrels is likely to be recoverable. The oil will also be technically challenging and potentially high cost to #develop.”

According to international and local media reports, the aircraft – a French-made turboprop ATR 72-500 – came down in the Zagros Mountains, specifically in Mount #Dena where the mountain’s highest peak is located, about 22 kilometres form Yasuj. #MEED

Broadcast live over the internet, the prices offered for #Saudi #Arabia’s 300MW #Sakaka photovoltaic (PV) #solar project represented a seminal moment not only for the kingdom’s move to integrate clean #energy into its #power sector, but also for the global #renewable energy #revolution.

Seven of the eight tariff prices received for the first project in #Riyadh’s 9.5GW #Renewable Energy programme were below 3 $cents a kilowatt hour ($c/kWh), while the two lowest prices broke previous world records for utility-scale PV #production. The lowest bid of 1.785 $c/kWh was the first solar tariff under competitive #bidding to break the 2 $cents barrier... #meed #meedprojects
