It's starting to look a little like spring. I've started to notice the trees are starting to bud.

The amount of busy turkeys in the upper North Shore are increasing exponentially every year.I was at a customers house carrying out a pest control treatment in St Ives and I saw a fox in their back yard.

I tell you what it it spooked me.Apon closer observation I saw that it was not moving. It was made of plastic and used to scare the bush turkeys away. The owner bought it online for 500 dollars.

I had a holiday in Thailand in the July for four weeks. The termites work very fast there and are a lot larger.Every evening the flying termites were attracted to any lights that you had on and in the morning there were flying termite wings every where.

When a termite inspection is conducted on a building or a house the most important area to inspect are all the surrounding trees outside.Ordinarily if there are termites eating a house the termite nest will be in a tree within one hundred meters of the house or in a timber retaining wall or leaking bathroom.

Contrary to what people think , treated pine logs used for retaining walls for gardens are not termite proof. The weather preservation treatment to the treated pine logs is only evident in the first cm of the timber.

If you cut the end of the timber you expose the untreated part of the log and the termites can start happily eating away. In the case of the picture below after time the treated pine logs crack because of weathering and the termites have entered through the cracks.

In Queensland I have seen pictures of pole houses collapsing because the termites entered through the cracks in the treated logs and have completely eaten out the centre of the log and collasped the entire  house.

Its early August in Sydney and the temperature is starting to get a little warmer bringing with it a sudden influx of termites that have being laying dormant over the very cold winter.

If you haven't had a termite inspection
in the last year, its probably time to get one done.

P.S In August with every termite inspection conducted by Micropest we include a free pest inspection..
