When I first started my own business, I did everything I thought that I could possibly do to get the business ready, from getting office furniture, to buying a printer, to building a website (myself). What I didn’t realize was that I what I was really doing was avoiding the ONE thing I actually needed for my business to grow: SALES. Obviously, without sales, there IS no business, you would think I understood that… but this wasn’t a logical thing, this wasn’t a practical thing, this was a MINDSET thing.
Looking back, I see now what happened. Although I had worked in sales before, I never had to sell ME before. That was new, and that was scary. In addition, there a was a little part of me that knew that every time I made a sale, I was giving myself more work – more work that, at the time, I didn’t enjoy (another story for another day). So while I wanted business and needed income, at the same time, I subconsciously didn’t want business. How confusing is that?
Ultimately I turned this situation around: I changed my business model to work I actually ENJOYED, I learned an effective sales conversation centered around adding value, not pushing a sale, and I reframed “sales” as “service” -- and if I’m serving, then there’s no need to avoid it, because that’s what I do best.
These days, as a mentor, I see other “superstars” like me with a similar pattern: wanting and needing revenues, but resisting, procrastinating and ignoring sales. If you resonate with this, consider that there may be some issue around 1) the type of work your business requires you to do -- maybe you don’t LOVE it and so you resist doing more of it, 2) your subconscious concept of what sales actually IS -- AKA: do you see sales as pushing an agenda? Or do you TRULY see it as Service, or 3) your own self-worth or perception of your own value.
I welcome your thoughts and feedback.

In my experience, speaking has been the easiest, most fulfilling and most effective way for me to establish credibility, boost your influence, and supercharge your earnings. Do you speak? If so, what about? And if not… consider, if you were invited to speak at a business conference full of your ideal clients, what would your topic be in order to generate more leads and sales for yourself? Please share!!

You may have heard me say -- “It’s not who you know, it’s who knows you -- and what they say when you’re not around. That’s your brand.” What I love about branding is that even if you can’t CONTROL what people say when you’re not around, YOU can influence what they say. You can intentionally brand yourself so that the world sees you how you wish to be seen. It starts with figuring out what you are offering that sets you apart from everyone else. So tell me – what do you want people to say about you when you’re not around? I want to know.

Overworked. Underpaid. Spinning your wheels. I know I’ve been there. Can you relate?
I’ve learned over the years that MOST business problems can be solved by making more sales. There are few problems that more revenue can’t solve. With more revenue you can hire more support, get mentorship, raise salaries, invest in marketing, and countless more things.
And I’ve learned that there are four, and only four strategies to increase sales (and make your life much, much easier!)
1) Generate more leads.
2) Improve your conversion rate.
3) Increase the number of sales, (AKA: the “would you like fries with that?” strategy).
4) Increase the price of what you sell.
Consider: what would life be like if you were to increase 1 or 2 of these. What would happen if you increased all 4? Share below where you see the biggest opportunity.
