A few years ago, I lost a friend whose story was similar to this one. While mental health services can be hard for anyone to access, it's particularly difficult within the Deaf community. To begin with, there aren't nearly enough Deaf (or signing) counselors. If someone is able (and comfortable enough) to go elsewhere, it can be difficult to get adequate interpreting services, and even more difficult to get a consistent interpreter (so they aren't spending valuable appointment time giving enough context to make the interpretation effective)... and even if they can get all of that handled, there's also the fact that a pretty small percentage of counselors are familiar with Deaf people, their culture, their particular struggles, so the therapy can get sidetracked by having to explain it all... Plus, it's hard enough to go tell all your deepest feelings to a stranger, but when it's going through a third party (interpreter) who is a part of your small community, it can be even more difficult. Put all of these things (and others) together with the struggles that everyone else would go through to get the help they need, and you have a tremendously under-served population.

I don't even know where to begin...
A pregnant Florida woman delivered her baby in a motel bathtub, and that's the least bizarre thing about the circumstances of the child's entry into this mad, mad, mad, mad world.

Went whale-watching today - so cool!! But two hours after getting off the boat, I was still freezing. Clearly, it was hot toddy time.

Considering a new dog soon , went from 3 dogs to 1 in the blink of an eye. Corgis are at the top of the list , corgi mixes from rescues even more so.

The hake special and the marinated strawberry dessert were both phenomenal.

Food was amazing, and they kept the kitchen open a few extra minutes for us since we pulled into town a bit late. Pork belly was fantastic.
