I'm Happy Your Hair Is Flying Free Again
I'm not sure if I believe in an After ... But I see why people do - it's easier to cope with. So excuse me whilst I imagine you running naked and wild in some unicorn-infested, rainbow land.
I hope you receive this letter. I'm not really sure how the mail system is from Here to There. Was the journey pleasant, or did you give some angelic cabin crew a hard time for being incompetent? I know, I know, it's hard to get good staff these days. Please be kind to the bunnies and the dolphins smirk.
I can imagine that you are smiling and your hair flowing wild and free behind you. It may be a while before we can have our "Who Has The Craziest Hair Competition" again. I think you won the last round, which is fine by me. Hey, no more hospitals, no more needles and no more pumping poison into your body. Free. A state that you should always be.
Love, M xxx

I Wish I'd Been There To Say "Good Bye"
I take comfort in knowing that both your children were holding you till you drew your last breath. I wish there had been time for me to rush there ... Just to give you a hug, have just another chuckle, listen to you being a smart arse. As I lie here, I try in my mind to reach across space and time ... if only to prod you one last time and say "Hey you ... Those cancer f**ker cells can't get you now." It's a crap trade-off. I'm proud you fought so long and so hard; I'm proud you never gave up ... in science or in hope. I'm proud you made those cancer f**ker cells work so damn bloody hard - you truly showed them whom they were dealing with: The Magnificent E.E., Diva-Queen-Braniac.

Dismay When I Was Told
The dismay when I saw your brother's name appear on my phone. You defeated cancer time and time and time and time again, I lost count. Now, not for the umpteenth time ... not another time. I got so used to you beating it each time it came around I stopped worrying. It's not coming round anymore.

I'm Sorry I Can't Be There To Send You Off
Today is your Sending Off Party. I cannot call it anything else. Everything was like a party with you, my dearest friend ... Even when we caught up for one coffee. I cannot be there. So I will have a one for you at the place we used to go to almost every week before you moved away. The name has changed many times but the structure remains. Like our friendship ... The state might change, but the foundation remains.
Today I will remember how much we laughed together - you had such a way with words - brilliant, magical. Today, I will remember the times we helped each other - you were always so generous - with your time and your heart. Today I will remember how divinely fabulous you were ... "were" ... It is still inconceivable to me. You ARE divinely fabulous, full of empathy and compassion, respect and dignity, courage and passion. You ARE a role model and an inspiration, to me and those whose lives you touched. I am so glad I actually told you this ... On more than one occasion. But I'm telling you again ... Just in case you might have forgotten.
Well, I hope you got your passport and everything packed. I hear the trip is pretty awesome ... First class and all that.

would be very happy to read you very soon?
Processing Your Passing Has Been Tough
The idea that you are no longer here ... It's been tough to wrap my head around. It is not possible. Your personality is larger than life. Cancer was afraid of you. But cancer is also larger in toxicity. The f**kers kept coming back. How DARE they! I know you're loving this. And hating this. You're loving that I'm telling the world of your brave and incessant fight; you're loving that your friendship meant that much to me. You're hating that I'm filled with sadness. I say your words back to you: "Tough shit. You're just going to have to suck it up."
