"Project time with me has been nonexistent.  Until recently."
For a long time, my youngest has been pretty resistant to . . . well, she's been pretty resistant. She doesn't like dong anything that isn't her idea, but she's also pretty dependent on her sister for company. Now, a lot of times that's been great, because they could play together while I work; ...

"Today, I'm sharing our new spring rhythm.  We do NOT follow this exactly.  Not even close to exactly.  And on Mondays?  Pffft . . . throw it all out the window.  Nice sunny days?  Throw it out and play outside.  We're extremely flexible with this, but it's always nice to have a spine for our days . . . to have goals."

"Some parenting 'experts' suggest leaving your child in a bored condition, as though once bored long enough, stores of creativity will rush forward."

Usually, we need to do more.  We need to check our routines, adjust our environment, or examine where we're focusing our attention.
Ballet 3 Image by Rolands Lakis. “I'm bored.” Words no parent wants to hear. My dad, unhelpfully, used to reply to us that we had no idea how valuable our free time would appear to us as adults, and that we shouldn't waste it since we'd never get it back. Like I said: Unhelpful.

"I'm so excited about this week's giveaway (more on that in a moment).  It's all about making art, about reminding us that it's painless and fun.  To make it even easier, there's a brand new e-zine created by Amy, from Amy Hood Arts.  Amy is all about encouraging families to create art together, to relax and experiment, and to instill in our children (and ourselves) the idea that art is for everyone."
We've been pretty busy here with pet health issues and upheaval, not to mention we're in full swing with our school year and activities. But that doesn't mean there isn't time for art! There's always room for art. Yes, like Jell-O. If Jell-O was a good thing. (Sorry, gelatin-lovers.

Why being gluten-free isn't just for fun
I've been spending the morning researching ways to speed up my recovery process after being fed a "gluten-free" burrito with a white sauce made from flour on it. I knew within an hour that I felt wrong, and contacted the restaurant to double-check. Sure, enough... now I get to deal with the rest of my symptoms.

For those who don't know much about gluten-intolerance, or you have weird friends who follow a gluten-free diet, take a look at the linked article and see what kinds of symptoms we get to deal with. The last time I went through this, I became extremely depressed and lethargic and all my joints flared up until I could hardly move. I felt like an 80-yr old woman for about a week and spent another week totally exhausted from the wreckage.

I'm still in the early phases right now: mostly the stomach and intestinal upset and the weird kind of brain fog that makes me dizzy, blurry around the edges, and totally unable to focus. I hope that the rest of it will be less severe, but I'll be on broth and water the next few days.

Please be kind to your gluten-free friends. Most of us do this for a reason. And you can bet your sweet little digestive systems I won't be eating at that restaurant again.

I haven't been lately, but I should.  We originally went gf for my youngest, and I gave her a regular multivitamin/supp with dig enzymes.  Helped SO much.

Introduction
I make kids . . . stories . . . bags . . . jewelry . . . food . . . long rants about the black and gold.

Certified ellipses addict . . .

I'm a wife, secular homeschooling mother of two girls, crafty chick, and writer.  I love sewing, but not so much from patterns (I'm a bit pattern-illiterate), making jewelry, reading, and growing veggies.

I'm a sometimes-freelance writer and fiction writer (literary/mainstream, fantasy, romance).  I also write about our homeschooling journey at Raising Cajuns.

I'm super easy going.  Until I'm not.
What can I say?
I'm an Aries/choleric/Cajun, who likes her Zen.
Life . . . is interesting.
