So glad to see coverage from #LivingGames2014 surfacing on the web. Even better to get it directly from a Keynote Speaker's blog! Read on for Lizzie Stark's "Building Larp Communities: Social Engineering for Good" for some of why my brain is busy being splattered across the wall at the NYU Games Center.

Here's what I know about building functional larp communities: notes from my keynote at Living Games.

Everything I know about building larp communities and how to make them functional. My Living Games keynote.

"Pixar has a knack for producing films which consistently operate on two different levels: one which speaks to a young audience without condescension or pandering, and one which reflects adult experience, rather than just exploiting nostalgia for idealized conceptions of childhood or simply spiking the cinematic punch with snarky, Grown-Ups Only pop culture references and in-jokes." - Bridget McGovern +Tor.com

Watch as multi-award winning German design collective URBANSCREEN transform Sydney Opera House with their Lighting of the Sails. The exquisite projection was in honor of Vivid Live, a 10-day festival celebrating music.

If you feel like a late-night musical rompus, check out Marie's Crisis! Forget the shower and belt broadway classics with the piano man and the rest of the bar. Can be very crowded on weekends! Be prepared to check your coat at the door - it is often enforced as mandatory for entry into this basement-nook.

Went to Kiwiana for an early dinner and caught the end of happy hour. The restaurant is beautifully decorated (what perplexing wallpaper!) with an attentive wait staff. The prices are a little over my every day budget, but are worth every penny! Try the Farmer's Daughter cocktail if they're still making it. I also highly recommend the lamb burger!

6 years a New Yorker and I've never managed to find a hair stylist I trust with my very fine, stubborn hair! Tired of taking a roundtrip train to my hometown every time I needed a trim, I asked for recommendations from friends for short hair experts. What I got was "Go to Salon Bohemia and ask for Wendy, she's a rockstar!" Not only was my cut and style great, Wendy was extremely accommodating and knowledgeable and I felt like I came away with a more intimate understanding of my own hair! Salon Bohemia can count me in for future visits!

As a freelancer the local coffee shop with wifi is a must-have and Tea Lounge is my go-to when I need a change of scenery from the apartment. There's a great variety of food (portions are a tad small) and coffeehouse drinks to choose from, as well as a host of seating options. From a diner booth table to your grandma's sofa, or a bench lined with throw pillows and cushions at the back of the room, Tea Lounge feels anything BUT corporate or manufactured. The staff is attentive, personable, and occasionally chatty when it's not too busy! Nestle into the atmosphere of 15 living rooms-in-one with a chai tea latte some time!

Who doesn't love thrifting? Especially when you are surrounded by old world hats, upcycled furniture, and a collection of giant replica fruits. Welcome to Film Biz - where kooky film and theatre props go to avoid the dump. Film Biz takes in donations that are headed to landfills and rents or resells them at more affordable prices than they should be! Little Mermaid, eat your heart out. For more whosits and whatsits than you know what to do with, it's absolutely worth the trip! Visit often! Item turnover is frequent.
