Watchtower rocks!

#docker   #watchtower
You have your services containerized, you've just deployed them to your fleet for 100 container hosts and everything is running smoothly. Then you realize that you missed a crucial command in the Dockerfile, and well, re-building the container image and pushing to the repository is easy, but what about the 100's of containers out there running the old version?

What to do with that old perl script?

#docker   #perl
Almost every IT department has one; a Perl script written over a decade ago by a long-gone employee. It does it's job well, but no one wants to touch or take responsibility for it. You just want to upgrade your infrastructure and bring it along, but there are so many CPAN modules and inconsitencies you want never want to look at it again. What to do?

go Go go

#arm64   #golang   #go
Now that Go 1.5 is out, lots of gophers are excited to try the much improved cross compilation support. For some background on the changes to the cross compilation story you can read my previous post, or Rakyll's excellent follow up piece. I'll assume that you are using the binary version of Go ...

Another container tech to keep an eye on. If Intel can leverage VT-x extensions to get sub 200ms container startups in a hypervisor the possibilities and security benefits are immense.

I always liked Joe Biden, but now I really like him, and Colbert went up notches I didn't even know were there.

Emulating ARM64 on Linux

#arm64   #howto
Over the last few years I've championed the ultra-low-power and high-density of a 64-bit ARM platform in the datacenter. The promise of thousands of cores all sipping power and taking up less room than the equivalent Intel architecture to me is both exciting and pragmatic as a large systems IT engineer.

The go-to Asian market in San Diego. Wide variety of pan-Asian cultural foods with a few American tastes thrown in here and there. Avoid at all costs on the weekends if possible since the parking lot is one of the Mad Max situations.

Saw Star Wars Episode VII here and it was a great experience. Clean well kept theatre and the picture and sound were great. Some people don't like the concept of having food and drinks delivered during a movie, but I am not one of those people.
