I was recently on the Western edge of Washington state.  Here are a couple of photos overlooking the coast at Kalaloch.  Surprisingly clear for this time of year.

My new year's resolution to finish an EP is actually moving forward.  Maybe not as quick as I'd like but it is my biggest push yet. http://michtu.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/ep-update/  #guitar #home-studio

Module Prototype
Today I was able to work on the module prototype and I think overall it worked out.  So far it isn't the greatest looking setup yet, but I can see that it is functional and that is a start.  You can see the basis for what I am calling the standard module wh...

I have the next couple of days off of work, so I'm going to clean up and organize my office/studio/practice space so that all I have to do is turn on the amp and press record.  Time to work on finishing music, not just playing guitar.  #studio #guitar

I'm going to be switching out my pickups in the next couple of days and it got me wondering.  Where does everyone draw the line on doing stuff yourself versus paying someone to do it on your guitar?  What about other gear like pedals or pedal boards or rack mounted stuff?  Is it a dollar amount (for the gear) or just a comfort with the skills?

For me it is my main guitar but I've done soldering and have experimented with my other guitars on other stuff like neck and trem adjustments.  So I have some confidence based on that.

Didn't think there was much besides squirrels for wildlife in my neighborhood, but I had to wait for this group to move out of the way this morning.

Picked up a Google Chromecast today. It is quite the interesting device. I'm still getting familiar with it, but a couple things I didn't know before. It does require power through USB in addition to the HDMI connection. It also doesn't really have a UI of its own. It uses either a smart phone or a computer to do the setup and the selection of media to play. Neither is a deal breaker and in reality is actually a better experience. It is pretty impressive to pick your site on the phone and send it off to the TV.

The new pickups are in!  Got a Crunchlab in the bridge and a Liquifire in the neck.  Both are from DiMarzio.  I've got the before and after sounds here: https://soundcloud.com/michaeljturner/originalpickups and https://soundcloud.com/michaeljturner/crunchlabliquifire.

First time doing any work on the guitar beside string changes.  It was pretty straight forward if you have done soldering before but two things that slowed me down.  One was the wire on the new pickups was thinner than any of my wire strippers so I was forced to use a utility knife which wasn't so easy.  Second was the fact that the springs and screws for the replacement pickups wasn't the same as the OEM.  So I ended up cutting the spring in half and used the original screws because they were going directly in the wood.  Overall I'm pleased and can't wait to start playing and recording with them.

Cool. Based on this last experience I like the idea of a guitar with good bones and then upgrading.
