OMG OMG Hearthstone for phones interface looks sweet!
The folks at Blizzard held their panel at Pax East this morning, and they had a few cool announcements to make. One of the announcements pertained to none other than Hearthstone: Blackrock Mountain, the next official expansion, is coming next month!

Privacy from government is for liars and crooks, because I have nothing to hide and nothing to fear? Think again.
Every so often, you hear the argument “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear”, in order to justify increased and invasive surveillance. This argument is not only dangerous, but dishonest and cowardly, too. In the comments to yesterday's post about Sweden's DNA register, ...

How much does an intergenerational ship cost?

Actually, make that an inter-civilizational ship since Kepler 186f is 490 light-years away.

Yaay for broadband. Boo for mobile. But broadband for corporate still crazy expensive. Boo.
Broadband speed in Singapore is now the world’s fastest, according to a Federal Communications Commission report. In the third quarter of last year, Singapore recorded an average connection speed of 105.3 Mbps. Other Asian countries that topped the global list for fastest Internet speeds are Hong Kong (95.7 Mbps), Japan (69.7 Mbps) and South Korea (34 Mbps).Globally, the average connection speed was 4.5 Mbps, remain...

Statistics on the pidgin language called Mandarin Chinese. “About 70 percent of the total population (of China) can speak Putonghua, and 95 percent of the literate population knows how to use standard Chinese characters. However, only 10 percent [of that 70 percent] can speak standard Putonghua fluently,”

My god. Sikhs are forbidden from eating halal meat! Poor warrior brothers. The more halal stuff the more their diet is limited.
In Sikhism, only vegetarian food is served in the Gurdwara (Sikh temple) but Sikhs are not bound to be meat-free. The general consensus is that Sikhs are free to choose whether to adopt a meat diet or not. Sikhs, once they become Amritdhari (baptised) via the Amrit Sanskar (baptism ceremony), ...

if the Chinese rule the world, they will likely do so in English. What the hell my kid is subjected to increasingly horrible levels of Chinese.
A century from now, expect fewer but simpler languages on every continent

Big drama nukes.
What ended World War II? For nearly seven decades, the American public has accepted one version of the events that led to Japan’s surrender. By the middle of 1945, the war in Europe was over, and it was clear that the Japanese could hold no reasonable hope of victory. After years of grueling battle, fighting island to island across the ...

Hasegawa is both right and wrong. The Japanese government was terrified about surrendering to the Soviets. They knew there was unfinished business between Russia and Japan and they knew what the Soviet troops were capable of when they entered Germany. So surrendering to the Americans, unpalatable as it was, was simply the lesser of 2 evils. But Hasegawa appears to downplay the role of the 2 atomic bombs that levelled Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The prospect of one bomb, one flattened city, must have weighed decisively in the decision to surrender. An atomic bomb dropped on Tokyo would have meant the end of the imperial system as well as the end of government itself.

The ambience is perfect. The food is 3 star at best but better than anything else I've had in Yangon for white man food lol. Italian chap mans the big wood fired wall oven. Quattro formaggi doesn't have strong enough gogonzola. Chicken was too dry. But still better than most others, at least it's more authentic than all the rest. Tiramisu is top 40 percentile for what I've tried. Bar guy is fancy and does some tricks with the half filled Dewar bottle.

Damn good Cantonese Chinese food Cantonese style. Rock cod dishes are great. Fried chicken fried Chinese style with hot flavored oil and salted pepper. Wow. Great prices too. As somebody from a real Chinese country, this was great.
