Great article on Michael Arnstein.  I have flirted with this and tried it for a while myself.  I would suggest that it takes a real economic commitment to sustain this, as its not a cheap route, and you can only eat bananas only for so long.  This is one book that I am looking forward to reading, and hope that it is more about sustaining the food intake versus his place as a runner.

Well, I can tell you this, the water bill definitely goes up....there are some added trips to the bathroom.  I'm not sure that its a fits all type of thing.  Arnstein was a vegetarian for a while before shifting to all raw fruits, so I look at it as a minor change for him, and might be something you build into over time. The premise is that your body has far less muscle that a massive amount of protein is not required.  If you are running 50+ miles a week, you'll need every bit of carbs you can get your hands on.  I tried it for a few months and I can tell you my resting heart rate got as low as 43 and I have never seen it that low, ever.  I might try it again after I read his book and figure out a way to financially sustain it.
