From the article: The company is no longer designing their products and services with a customer experience that will woo us to be loyal, but for profit maximization now that we're here.
Writing for Fast Company, Mark Wilson says Amazon's Dash button isn't as convenient as it seems, and the savings aren't great either.

HTC to cut 15 percent of its workforce following poor sales

Can you say "death spiral"?
HTC’s long running revenue troubles have been well documented, but this year has seen the company plunge back into the red as sales of its flagship HTC One M9 smartphone have fallen flat. As a result, HTC has announced plans to lay off 15 percent of its workforce, in a bid to cut costs and improve its profitability. The job cuts will affect staff worldwide and could reduce the company’s size by more than 2,250 roles. In total, HTC is looking t...

From the article: "At this point, we in the Web community need to come to terms with the fact that Safari has become the new IE."
If devs build a modern Web app ecosystem sans Safari, maybe Apple can move beyond 2010.

From the article: "For same-sex marriage, it's a win-win across every part of financial strategy except taxes," says financial planner Joshua Hatfield Charles, an ambassador for the CFP Board of Standards, an industry group.
Getting married is both an emotional decision and an economic one, something that same-sex couples in the states that have allowed them to legally wed have been finding out since 2004.

On July 14, 2015, after nine and a half years journeying across the Solar System, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft made its historic close pass of Pluto and its moon Charon. Traveling a relative velocity of nearly 13.8 km/s (that’s almost 31,000 mph!) New…

Problem: At this point, the ecosystem around Javascript is so densely layered and frequently changing that maintenance of any project over any significant period of time is going to be a nightmare.

Agreed - it's a struggle to limit the number of JS libraries and frameworks we depend on in our code, and requires constant reminders of the ongoing cost that each new library entails.

Brilliant argument by Justice Ginsburg, and something I had never quite appreciated until now. The case for same-sex marriage is built upon a redefinition of the nature of marriage itself, in favor of an egalitarian relationship rather than dominant (husband)/submissive (wife) roles.  Without the women's rights movement, we could not have had a successful gay rights movement - in the U.S. at least.
Marriage is no longer bound to antiquated gender roles. And when those gender roles are removed, the case for marriage discrimination breaks down.

Without the women's movement, the same sex marriage movement would have to have been built on the idea of tops and bottoms.  ;)

An event I plan to attend. The Amiga was the first personal computer with hardware support for photorealistic graphics, high-quality digital sound, and fluid animation. It was also the first consumer computer to offer preemptive multitasking paired with a graphical user interface.

All these are things we take for granted today, but the Amiga was first to have them all, in one machine.

If you remember the Amiga well, or have an interest in the history of personal computers, please consider backing this campaign.
Dedicated group of Amiga Enthusiasts is raising funds for Amiga 30th Anniversary in California on Kickstarter! Come join us for a celebration of the Amiga, its groundbreaking accomplishments and its rich history at the Computer History Museum

I love the Amiga! If only they'd marketed it properly in the US.

Even here in the UK it was the number one home computer for a few years, then it all seemed to vanish overnight.
