Brilliant argument by Justice Ginsburg, and something I had never quite appreciated until now. The case for same-sex marriage is built upon a redefinition of the nature of marriage itself, in favor of an egalitarian relationship rather than dominant (husband)/submissive (wife) roles.  Without the women's rights movement, we could not have had a successful gay rights movement - in the U.S. at least.
Marriage is no longer bound to antiquated gender roles. And when those gender roles are removed, the case for marriage discrimination breaks down.

An event I plan to attend. The Amiga was the first personal computer with hardware support for photorealistic graphics, high-quality digital sound, and fluid animation. It was also the first consumer computer to offer preemptive multitasking paired with a graphical user interface.

All these are things we take for granted today, but the Amiga was first to have them all, in one machine.

If you remember the Amiga well, or have an interest in the history of personal computers, please consider backing this campaign.
Dedicated group of Amiga Enthusiasts is raising funds for Amiga 30th Anniversary in California on Kickstarter! Come join us for a celebration of the Amiga, its groundbreaking accomplishments and its rich history at the Computer History Museum

I love the Amiga! If only they'd marketed it properly in the US.

Even here in the UK it was the number one home computer for a few years, then it all seemed to vanish overnight.

Pluto and its largest moon Charon are an example of a double-planet system - two bodies that both orbit around a common center of mass. For the first time, thanks to the New Horizons spacecraft, we have an animated movie of their orbital motion.

"Pluto and Charon’s Gravitational Dance" http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/pluto-and-charons-gravitational-dance-0213201523/

(A similar situation exists with Earth and Moon, but in our case the common center of mass still lies within the Earth, owing to its much larger mass relative to Moon.)
NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has taken a series of images that show Pluto and its largest moon, Charon, orbiting around their common center of mass.

As someone who spent considerable effort as part of a team trying to make YouTube safe and appealing to kids, we encountered several Google-imposed roadblocks along the way. It'll be interesting to see if Google is serious about fixing the things that make YouTube unsuited to children, all while staying on the good side of COPPA regulations.
Those murmurs that Google was retooling its services for kids? Yep, they're real. The search giant tells USA Today that it's creating versions of its pro

Observing through my LITEBOX 15" Dobsonian Telescope at Lake Sonoma, CA. I started at twilight observing Mars and Saturn, then moved on to distant star clusters as the night darkened.

Shot with the GoPro Hero3+ camera in time-lapse mode.

A really nice article on the "original gaming PC" - the Atari 8-bit family of computers - which are now celebrating their 35th anniversary.

The Atari 800 was my first computer, one that I learned computing on. Everything I learned was from magazines - the "Internet" of the time. Eventually I wrote and sold an article to one of the magazines; the royalties went straight into a disk drive upgrade for my 800. That 800 set the stage for my career as a software developer.
How a home computer from 1979 pushed electronic entertainment to the bleeding edge.

Tracing a sewing pattern in the Line of Selvage Design Studio (which looks suspiciously like the office in my basement). Test footage shot with a GoPro Hero3+ camera, and the GoPro 3-way mount arm accessory.

From the article: "The inventor also said that Jobs used to take “people when he could, and ideas when he couldn’t,” and used the premise of the attachment to build a multimedia mail tool called NeXTMail, which Borenstein commented was “fine with me: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?”

Nathaniel Borenstein was by far my favorite CS professor at CMU.
