Having worked on a political campaign I can tell you what the real test is if you want to be a politician: Can you cold call 50+ people a day and ask for campaign contributions? Can you go to an event and shake hands with everybody in the room and get their name and business card? Can you drop everything in your life and campaign 24/7 for a minor local elected office? Can you wake up at 4am to greet people at the train station? Can you meet someone you met 5 years ago for 5 minutes and remember their full name and life story? And can you do all of this and still not win?

Economics: Investment manager Bill Gross of Janus now thinks that the solution to our economic malaise should be some form of Universal Basic Income due to the mass unemployment that will be coming down the pipeline. While this may sound pretty radical at first (this is well beyond what anybody politically is talking about) this does line up with the idea of a Negative Income Tax which other economists have been talking about.

According to economist Bruce Greenwald the fate of manufacturing is the same as farming: It's going to become a tiny slice of the economy that only employees a few people. His solution to income inequality is also interesting as he proposes what's known as a Negative Income Tax (which actually is an old idea that was first proposed in the 1940s by British politician Juliet Rhys-Williams)

There was something really fun about the posters for 70s disaster films — the illustrations, the laundry list of stars and the taglines
